PCMech Tiny?

Whoa, all of a sudden, everything on the forums is *really* small, it looks like 1600x1200 or something. I'm using Firebird, and none of the other pages I have open are like this. What gives? Is it something I can change in Firebird? I can barely read what I'm typing!

Are you sure you didn't change text size? Does the text return to its normal size if you close the window, and open PC Mech again?

Heh, whoops. I don't know anything about Firebird, so I asked my brother, who does web developing, and he showed me how to change the text size back to normal. Boy, do I feel stupid.

Hahahahaha...what one of a handfull (now that the preview release is out).

Let's see...how many 'bugs' in IE - last I looked I've got half a dozen critical IE security updates from Windows Update - not to mention the W3C issues. I'll take Firebird and/or Mozilla any day over any flavor if IE.

Dave.

Why do people always complain about IE having security bugs? If you have any common sense you will not have any problems, I used IE for the last 5 years and never had any security issues, but thats because I used my brain while surfing the net.

I doubt it. The US Department of Homeland security actually issues a message stating the vulnerabilities of MSIE that Microsoft failed to adequately fix...can't find the link, but it recommended switching to alternate browsers. Yes, I use Firefox on my desktop, but I still continue to use MSIE on my laptop - both are good IMO. MSIE still has some vulnerabilities that unless you pay attention to, will be swarmed. Hence the lesson of Windows Update.

Well.. until the day comes that I have a problem with IE, I'll continue using it. I use adsubtract which blocks a lotta crap and even when I scan only monthly for spyware with AdAware and Spybot, all I ever find are tracking cookies which you will get with any browser unless you disable cookies. Same with virii.... still running Norton 2003 and do a monthly double check with Housecall... not just on my machine, but on the machines that my wife and daughter use as well.... no probs on any of them.... so why clutter my machine with yet another browser.

IE and coomon sense have worked just fine for me for the past 5 years. Yes, I use additional spyware detectors and anti-virus, but rest assured that plain blind faith in Firefox will end up biting you in the you know what someday...

What it comes down to is every browser will develop an issue over time, or will have an issue another doesn't. Netscape has java issues, firefox sometimes doesn't play sound in java, IE is *cough* from microsoft...not to mention plug-in incompatibilities and corruptions. If your browser is pixel perfect now, it wont be in 3 months. I use mozzilla firefox right now, because it offers the best features... ^_^

Hal and I seem to have a similar mindset on alot of issues. Perhaps he's not quite the fanboy I am for companies such as M$ and Intel, as I believe stick to what works for you. Thus I rarely switch until, like Hal, I encounter a problem. *however* I did try out firefox, for the themes, extensions, plug-ins and tabbed browsing. . .and I must say. Although I don't really find it to run faster than IE, or anything like that, I do seem to get alot less spyware, and, quite frankly, I love the tabbed browsing. Much better than opening multiple IE's, and I am quite picky about things on my computer, and quite reluctant to change Overall, I use it more than IE, however there are a few *company* related secure sites which don't care for firefox. That's just my 2 cents!
