Star Wars release
Okay, I'm not a giant Stars Wars geek, but I believe that the original trilogy is a absolute must for any collection. Anyway, with this new DVD set coming out, I was wondering if anyone knew what version it was. Is it the original? Or is it the lame one with all the stupid computer generated crap? In my opinion, the fact that Lucas created all those beautiful effects without the help of our wonderful modern technology is what made Star Wars, and I don't want to get the DVDs if they are the redone ones. I was told by someone who heard this from somewhere that you have the option to watch either version of the set. Let me know if anyone knows the truth!

Actually except the chance that Hayden Christiansen is now Anakin's Force Ghost at the end of ROTJ, the other chances look good to me. So they created a new CGI Jabba for ANH, now it's Ian McDiarmid who plays the Emperor in ESB (the hologram). And they enhanced the lightsaber and blaster effects. Dunno about the lightsaber's strobing effects in ANH, though. RJ

as to the "improvements": it makes sense that if you going to take the time and effort to remaster, you clean things up as well. As long as there are no fundamental changes to the story, why not? Last edited by mbossman2; 09-16-2004 at 09:27 AM. |

I was looking at the ESB DVD today, and i have to say, I like it.
The picture looks awesome. Yoda is still the puppet and not that CGI thing. The people in the carbon freezing chamber in cloud city are not half translucent anymore. The lightsabers look a bit better, too. I don't care about the slightly different voice of Boba Fett, and the Emperor change is one I like, coz I never liked it that the Emperor in ESB looks and sounds different than the one in ROTJ. So now it's good ![]() And Luke does not scream anymore when escaping from Vader in Cloud City by falling down the reactor shaft or whatever it is. I'll take a look at the other two maybe tomorrow . .. I guess Hayden as the Force Ghost is the only thing i really hate. But ESB is my favourite of the classic trilogy, and the DVD is great. RJ |

Just got the set yesterday, it was only $39.99 at Wal Mart.
Watched ANH this morning, didn't notice any new scenes other thant the ones that were added in the 25th anniversary edition. The sound is amazing, and the colors have all been enhanced, you can no longer see the scotch tape holding the Tie-Fighters onto the blue screen.
