Windows...XP?

Hey,

This was just floating through my thoughts while I was looking through a Dell catalogue - what exactly does the "XP" in Windows XP OS stand for? Anyone know? Like Windows ME stands for Millenium Edt (which I may add does have major stability issues).

i remember a big deal about eXPerience, like it was a completely new experience, but that could have been a marketing ploy

I believe it is supposed to stand for experience, as in the "Windows Experience".

Yup, eXPerience it is. Found this with a google search.

The newest Windows operating system that boasts it's ease of use. The XP goes with "The smarter work eXPerience".

Very interesting...XP was the first acronyms that I thought wasn't blatenly obvious...ME MX and stuff got to me, but XP just...sounded good to me. eXPensive, that, almost all MS Windows OSs are. Must have been a trend around that time...I remember nVidia up to 2002 was using the "GeForce2...GF3...GF4" idea until they too changed to the letters FX. Funny how MS goes back to the year naming scheme after XP - Windows 2003 Exchange Server, MS Office 2003, etc.

Talking about ease of use, if you want something easy to use, get a Mac

Thanks,
kram

Well, like Hal I haven't figured that one out. I can't even figure out how to eject a CD on a Mac. Anyway, I remember hearing a joke, or maybe it wasn't, about XP standing for "X-Paper Clip". However, it seems that Clippy is still with us.

Might be personal opinion - my first computer was a Mac and I've always liked how it's simple and easy. Being that, it was back in 1995, after Win95 made its debut. The giant monitored PowerMac all the way .

Clippy is still with the MS Office softwares - sometimes, they say some very wierd things.

People who were a bit unlucky with Windows XP also called it eXtra Problems

But the official meaning is indeed eXPerience.

wow, i feel a lot better now, i was becoming afraid mac's have something against me . It took me half an hour or so to find that cd drive button on my friends mac. i couldnt even find where the drive actually was situated on that half globe. They do look pretty cool with that designer mouse and see trough speakers though. But if i cant build my pc myself, i dont want it.
