rc helicopter
been looking into this as a hobby and looks like great fun, ive had a look on ebay and all the kits seem hugely expensive, is there any electric ones that would get me started?

I used to fly them and I'll tell ya.. .you're gonna be looking at even more money with an electric along with more maintainance to keep the batteries in good condition. Most electrics are small and very light weight meaning more difficult to fly in light winds. Save your money and look at something like the Hirobo Shuttle. It's a very forgiving machine to fly which is very well suited to a beginner, yet fully aerobatic capable of loops, rolls, and inverted flight for when your skills progress that far. Even more importantly, since you must accept if you are going to fly, you WILL someday crash, they are relatively inexpenisve and much easier to fix than more complex machines.
I highly recommend finding a local flying club in your area and see what they are all flying as they will be able to help you with your decisions. You can find clubs throuth the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) in the US, or the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada (MAAC) in Canada.
