Basement water backup

Today I got home to find out that the drain in my bathroom in the basement was spewing water up. It was rainining like CRAZY!. The drain up front I guess could not handle soo much water.I added some drain opener. I was thinking of adding a sump pump so whenever the water begins to back up it would turn on and siphon it into teh bathtub of a drain thats able to handle the water. Know of any good pumps?

I think that doing this would not solve your problem, you must have a bloclage further down the line and that is why it is backing up, clear the blockage and all will be ok.

useing a pump will only recycle the water and it will still come up at the same place it did before.

there is a good supply of pumps at home depo and lowes that would do a good job for you.

I agree... sounds like either a blockage, or a collapsed sewer line.... do your other drains all work fine without causing things to backup in the basement?

did the water come up in the bathtub also? is your storm and sewer seperate? if the floor drain is hooked up to the storm drain you can buy a mechanical backflow preventer for the drain itself or dig up the storm at the exit of the house and install an inline backflow there . If its the sewer that backed up in your house then you cant do much yourself since its a city (outside) problem( undersized, crappy pipes). It cant be blockage or water would rise up at every flush/water useage. sump pumps would only help if your basement is taking in water from the floor or walls.

I used a powerful drain clearer. I added 8 oz. let sit for 30minutes and flushed with teh hose. I am not sure if it is connected to the storm drain. IIt only comes up at that drain, not in the tub of anywere else.
