there have been a number of threads on this topic in the past, so i would recommend doing a search.
my personal favourite is MaximumPC - its more advanced than PCWorld and PCMag, and its more hardware-centred. mike |

The problem with magazines is that the information is kind of old by the time you get it. You get more up to date info from the internet.

Where are you? My favourite is PC Extreme, you can order it in other countries but it will cost you. Heres their site:

Being a very plain guy, I like PC Mag and PC World - though the ads flood both of them, they still have good content.

I really like CPU Magazine. It's geared toward the enthusiast/custom builder which most of us here are. I like it a lot better than any others I have read. One of the things I like best is that it isn't 80% ads like most PC magazines.

I like Maximum PC, CPU, PC Mag and PC World. Don't hold me to this but I think I have seen the one ric449 recommended at Barnes and Noble. They have several UK based mags on the shelf.
What I like about Max PC and CPU is that they are more directed towards the enthusiast and cutting edge components. What I like about PC Mag and PC World is that they seem to have more in terms of a variety of hardware and software reviews (extending into things like digital cameras and scanners and such). I always say take what you read in a magazine with a grain of salt, particularly if it is something related to one of their major sponsors or a company that sends them alot of free stuff. I don't believe that they will outright lie, but you may not get the full facts This also applies to a smaller extent to online site as well. I read several online site which you might also want to check out. www.tomshardware.com www.anandtech.com www.majorgeeks.com www.cnet.com www.zdnet.com There many other than these. Keep in mind most of the magazines also have sites which you can read many of their articles on for free although in some cases the articles may be a month old. And last but not least don't forget good old PC Mech. the homepage has great articles, guides, reviews, and news items on it. -Spartan |

Maximum pc rocks. Outstanding writing and pretty funny stuff. They are real nerdy and get into the nitty gritty unlike more simple magizines. You won't ever see an article about how to clean your ball mouse, or a simple method to achieving pretty icons...this stuff is a bit more hardcore.
You get a free CD each month with helpfull aps, utilities and 2-3 game demos! I never gotta find a good fps or new title out there on the web, I get it hard copy through maximum pc each month. A few of the titles I have recieved include: Far cry UT2004 Chaser Homeworld 2 Theif 2 and plenty of others. Last edited by TeenPcknowit; 09-20-2004 at 06:55 PM. |
