Question Shopping for furniture, help please

Im moving to Florida in a couple months to attend Full Sail, Im looking for furniture that will last me well after I graduate because I plan on getting a Condo after I graduate. Im looking for a king size matress, one thats really soft, but I dont want to pay to much. Im also looking for a nice 50inch big screen tv for my living room since Im only going to have 1 in my house and a home theater system. Im trying not to pay to much but I have no Idea where to find these products, please help and advise.

For mattresses avoid the national brands and go with local factory brands (kind of like this: http://www.matressfactory.com/). most of them make good solid mattresses for a lot less than the "name" brands.

and amazingly there is one of those original mattress factory stores in Winter Park, so let me vouch for them. they do make a good quality mattress for not a lot of money. their sales people are not pushy, they will stand there, answer your question and write up your order when you are ready.

I bought a queen size mattress and box spring for my guest bedroom and it feels as nice as the top end king I have in my main bedroom. I will always buy my mattresses from them in the future

as to furniture, you can stop in High Point NC on the way down, they are the furniture capital of the east and they have lots of furniture there for a good price (you do however have to pay cash)

Just saw the new Awai 47" HDTV rear projection TV - pretty nice for under $1000. I mean. it's no Pioneer, Mitsubishi, Sony or Panasonic, but it wasn't bad. And at under $1000, it's a great value in HD projection TV.

I'll agree with mbossman2 on the matress - buy from a local shop. Check them out first, but I'd bet they're as good a quality but around 1/2 the price.

For good, inexpensive furniture, IKEA can't be beat. I'd say every room in my new house has at least 3 or 4 things from them. Great quality at a great price.

And good luck at Full Sail - but my hope is that you're going for something other than audio or video. The market is so saturated right now - regardless of what they might tell you. I attended a number of conferences over the last 6 weeks and that was I'd say the #1 topic - no new jobs in the industry. Things are really cut-throat right now - we're even starting to feel it in the post-production side of things. A job I would have quoted @ $250/hour this time last year goes for around $100/hour now.

Dave.

If you want to find a used TV, check out www.craigslist.org, and select the city closest to you.

Ikea is a HUGE store. At least the one in Seattle is. That's the closest one to my house. I don't go there very often because it's a two hour drive but I do have several things in my house from them. They have nice quality things for low prices and a very large selection.

Ikea stores are either large (like the one near Hi Ho and the one I visit in Chicago) or they are smaller carrying more accessories and less furniture. The best advice I could give you on that one is to call them in advance to see if it's a stocked item.

Ok, I read about student furniture packages but I'd rather buy new because when I move again I'll want new furniture. Whats good stores to buy appliances, silverware, qualitys, etc from?

sears is always a good choice (you will fall over when you see how much good tableware costs) as are the multitude of outlet stores you will find in the orlando area.

Silverware and the like I generally buy at Target. Haven't bought any large appliances, but I would check out Sears first as mbossman suggested. For anything large and expensive, I will make my choice based on what I read in Consumer Reports and then just shop around to find the best price.

Sears is a good place for appliances. Home Depot and Lowes also carry appliances. Wal-Mart has decent silverware and cheap pots and pans that work fine. Also check out Costco if there is one near by. They have a lot of quality stuff for great prices.
