What does (XX bits) mean after member name?

What's the meaning of the #bits after member name?

The amount of bits necessary to display your amount of posts.

Example: You have 178 posts. In binary that is 10110010, and these are 8 bits.

If someone has 20 posts, that'd be 10100 in binary, which are 5 bits.

It's the number of binary digits (bits) you would need to express your post count. You have 178 posts, so you would need 8 bits. At 256, you would need 9 bits. And so on.

Now I never knew that. I thought it was just randomly chosen.
