A+ certification: how much knowledge of the history of cpus is needed?
I've read the first 4 chapters or so of Meyers 5th edition book on A+ certification. I was wondering how important is it to know the history of the cpu? I can understand knowing how the CPU works with memory, HD, northbridge, but I didn't get why there seems to be this emphasis on knowing when L1, L2 cache starting showing up on CPUS, which ones, etc.
How much of this is really needed or asked for on exam? Can someone guide me as to what is really the most important thing I should take from this chapter on cpus? thanks, Anthony |

I have not taken the A+ and I am not planning on taking it in the future - but I have seen CPU's in machines being used from a 486 up, at the present day. Not everyone needs, or affords the latest processor, and so it can be important to diagnose problems with loder systems, since they are getting old as well they have more of a chance to fail.
