Unlimit power supply

About two years ago I found in the internet the plans to build a power supply for a pc that can supply energy for about 7 or 8 hours with a car`s battery, the problem is that I lost the only hard copy of the files that I had, does anybody has the address of the web site of this great idea.

you can buy one of thoes power inverters at most stores, ( wal-mart, home depo, compusa, best-buy ) for about $39.00, I would rather buy one than build one.

I believe 7 or 8 hours would be a stretch for a signal battery. I could be wrong but I don't see how one could power a PC for several hours.

there are two variables here at play.
if you used a high amp/hour deep cycle battery and a computer that had a very low power drain, you could get much more time.

I think what he may be looking for (correct me if I'm wrong) is to make a low cost, high capacity UPS... Several years ago, Toaster was going to post some plans on how to do that but never did get around to it.

Yes, a deep cycle, or marine battery would last quite a bit longer than a regular car battery. They are often used in RV's. I have one in my Airstream and the lights, radio, and things work for days on one charge.

There are many plans for DIY UPSs online, but the most simple is a 12v sealed lead acid (or unsealed - ie car battery - if you're careful), a 12v charging power supply with a high current capacity, I would recomend in general 30A or higher, and a 12v -> 120v inverter.

You can also buy 12v input ATX's somewhere, and plans exist but are complex, which would eliminate need for an inverter.

Getting any more advanced would be challenging unless you know what you're doing.
