Question Stupid Avatar question...

I know this is a stupid question, but how do you change your avatar to a custom avatar? Do you need a # of posts before you can change it? In my CP I can only choose the flag or a crest thing... any way I can link to my own image?

Thanks for any help!

The avatar comes when you've been around the forums for a while and accumulated 1024 posts - 11-bit status.
moderators can pick their avatar of choice and even grant members custom avatar privellages to any member who has shown a strong devotion or contribution to PC Mech forums. - words of kram

I personaly wish I could use my own avatar but if I must wait a while I must wait....one thing I request is an extended page of usable avatar GOODNESS!......please?

I look at these forums like I would an MMORPG, you gotta work to gain a level...and hopefully you are greeted with a cool green text with exclamation point include that states......."YOU ARE FINNALY IMPORTANT!"

You must have 1024 posts before you can upload a custom avatar.

wow, that’s a lot of posts just to use your own avatar... I come here a lot and read, but I don't post on everything I see... you should be able to link to off site avatars or at the very least have a better stock avatar selection...

I am a designer and would be willing to design a cool selection of avatars if they would use them here... I could make a few custom PCMech ones too! Just a thought!

This site only works because of peoples devotion to helping eachother... the Avatar is just a reward Don't worry, you'll get there soon enough... Guess I have never been to needy for an avatar though...

It's just a picture, nothing more.

Yes, I have one now but I didn't start using a custom avatar until I had over 2500 posts...just didn't think it was a big deal. I did finally find a picture that I really liked though (not the current one...it was the infamous white rabbit on the red circle).

Yes, it's a kodama from Princess Mononoke...I'm a fan of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.

As someone stated in a similar thread a couple of months ago. "At PCMech, its the quality of the posts not the quantity that matters"

Yes exactly, but remember, it is also a devotion to helping people here that gets you such status. It's the quality of the attempt IMO, not the quantity. If you're here just to get an avatar, chances are, you'll spam and Mods will keep an eye, where you will forfiet your status.

Take a look at glc - 32k posts+ and doesn't have a signature or an avatar.

glc does have an avatar, it's just not a custom image. He uses the waving American Flag.

I don't have a lot of posts, but most of mine are lengthy! That should count towards something. Instead of a post count they should have a word count.

No it's not a big deal to have a custom avatar, and the 1024 post to get to use one is fine, but at least give a better, larger selection of stock ones... Its little things like this that would make this already great forum better! At least have a few more, maybe Intel, AMD, NVidia, ATI Badge avatars or something that would be fun and useful, just a thought... and my offer still stands to make a few for the forum if you want them... they would look good and would be a cool upgrade for free! PM me if you want me to make them.

That I might agree with, but it's up to the Mods and Admins to decide.

Actually, those look really nice - you seem to be a pretty good at Photoshop. Bravo - just shrink the size slightly to fit under the limit...don't remember the number, but just slightly smaller. Sorry to seem picky, but perhaps a bit of orange under the Intel sign (yes, the "HT" sign)...

Aren't they copyrighted?

I can't see the mods allowing them, or any.

They are copyrighted, but you are allowed to use any logo as long as you dont put it on another product or service it dosnt belong on.

They don't have to be logos at all anyway... I was just trying to show something that might be appealing to people here...

I love those! Nice work, Now you just have to see if the mods (or M.A Dockter, hes the forum admin) will let them be used.

you would still have to earn the right to use custom avatars, I was just suggesting they add a couple stock avatars... no big deal.

The stock avatars that we have now are only an option as a memorial to the loss of life on 9/11.

I do hope the mods leave the avatars the way they are.

I Think one of the stock avatars should be a dragon with a huge ninja sword...that's onfire. And the dragon is riding in a sweet Camaro or Firebird and that Camaro or Firebird has a sweet custom paintjob of a glowing skull that is shooting snakes out of its eyes. Oh, and the dragon has a tattoo....of a dragon.

Those are awsome, I like them! I agree, it would be great to have a bigger selection.
