Want to create/join a PCMech Counter-Strike team?
Want to create/join a PCMech Counter-Strike team?
Should admin put up a server? Feel free to post suggestions/steam account nicknames here. fedz (steam nickname: fedzta)

I think a team is a good idea, but considering the PC Mech site has to have ads on the site already to pay for bandwidth I think a server would be out of the question. But, what do I know, I'm not the admin.

I think that would be great, I used to play Counter Strike all the time, but since WON has gone down, I don't have anywhere to go. I don't have steam and wasn't planning on getting it since you have to pay for it now.
I've allready purchased Half-Life and Opposing Force, not really in the mood to spend any more money on the same game. But if there is another place to play, then I'll install it again. It would be interesting to see how this thread goes.

I like the concept of a team - I'm non teamed right now - just kram. So I guess if PC Mech were to have one, I would join. What will it be - [PCMech]kram ?

If there will be a CS team I'd join. Used to play a online, but haven't played for a long time already. Only with friends.
I guess I'd have to update to CS1.6, right ? Still playing 1.4 because my friend wants it. If it was my choice I'd still play 1.3, I like jumping ![]() I use the nickname "The Geek" when playing games on LAN, I kinda like that. RJ

Good stuff, keep the posts flowing in!!
I think a server would be a great idea, and feasible. We just need to get admin convinced. I'd say old school should be the way. There are still a lot of people using narrowband (so am I, but I'm upgrading to 1mbps in 10 days). I'll put up a second poll soon. The general idea would be: 1. A pcmech team: members would have username [PCMech]*username* 2. A server would be great, but until we find out other options need to be considered 3. By all means vote for a server, 'by popular demand' is always a good argument!! We need to order this. In case there is no server, we'd need to find a PCMech haunt. Oh, and, when posting, order your post like this: *Your CS version choice (1.5/1.6/Steam)* *Your message* That should make opinions easier to sift through... fedzfedz1@msn.com |

This has been discussed before. There will not be a game server of any type hosted by PCMedia.

you dont have to pay for steam its a free serive if u bought half-life or anything way back when you just download steam for free and then enter in your cdkey code into steam and then it lets you download and play the steam versions of those games if you havent bought the games before you can go in and purchase them virtually through steam its aquite a nice serve steam is still kinda buggy though but their workin on it and all the cs players are making sure of it

Hmmm... I've never played Half-Life. Maybe I'm out of the loop but I've been happy with Medal of Honor: AA. Is there something I'm missing? Is Half-Life much different than MOH (other than modern vs. WWII)?

a PCmech CS team would be great but almost impossible to make since the friends list service is always down.

i love MOH, i usually play spearhead. hi ho if pc mech isnt interested, we should at least hook up.
im willing to try CS tho. wouldnt be hard to get a server, get enuf members, and each jsut has to pich in a few bucks. you can get a decent server for like $50 to $80 a month. |

GLC, can you give us a thread reference?
I'm not sure many people would be willing to put in a lot of cash for a servre. I can't, as I don't really have any (being a student). The team is feasible though. jimmyrules: I really recommend counter-strike. Buy HL2, it comes with it. We need to find a PCMech haunt etc. It's not going to be easy, but hey, what is? fedzedit: Looking at a member profile, there is a section called public groups. To facilitate this and know who's part of this, could we create a PCMech CS group? Last edited by fedz; 09-27-2004 at 06:50 AM. |

We'd have to find a way around the Friends service though. It virtually never works, I don't know why
![]() Maybe we'd just have to use an instant messaging service ? at Hi Ho : Counterstrike is a free add-on to Half-Life. It's a lot of fun, but it's very hard in the beginning. You die in 2 well placed shots, and you have to use sound a lot. I've never played games longer than 2 weeks (including MOHAA) other than Diablo 2 and Counterstrike, so that pretty much states how addictive it is. The good thing is it doesn't take a monster computer to play either, since it's 4-5 years old already (but still one of the most played online games). It's simply great ![]() Here is a link to where you download Steam : http://www.steampowered.com/ It will just ask you for your Half-Life CD-key, after which you will be able to play Counter-strike online (and a lot of other HL mods, including Day of Defeat as well). Half-Life 2 will also use Steam. Note: Steam will eat a big chunk out of your HDD though

I'd like to see what's been said on it though, so I'm asking glc for a thread reference.I'll see about that public group thing. Here's my msn: feel free to add me, but change your username to PCMech/xxx before, so I know it isn't just anyone. fedz1@msn.com For anyone who's interested: here's a list of games with key codes that'll allow you internet access. http://search.shopping.yahoo.com/sea...half+life&did= I'd go for the 'generations' pack, as CS and Day of defeat are included with HL and blue shift. http://search.shopping.yahoo.com/sea...eneration&did= fedz

I can't give you a thread reference, this was something that was discussed in private among the staff. Contact Dok if you want.

I wouldn't mind be on a PcMech CS team. I play CS all the time and I'm not that bad either. I'm the on the westcoast though.

There's no point having a team if it isn't open to everyone!!!
Which CS version do you favour? I'd prefer 1.5 until HL2 comes out, when I'll upgrade to source. fedz

umm CS doesn't really have a storyline its just basically a mod where the point of the game is to get rlly good at aiming + hitting ppl in the head. HL is about a guy named morgan freeman who has a rlly bad day at work to say the least

The storyline is the most important thing in Half-life, which sets it apart from other games. It's great, so I won't ruin it for you. CS is basically terrorist vs. counter-terrorist. The terrorists have hostages or bombs, and the CT try and annihilate them/rescue hostages/defuse bombs.
Everyone OK with CS 1.5? fedz

Use to play 1.5, but sorry it's 1.6 now. CS source is out to play if you have Condition Zero!
