Which Media Player do you use?

I'm just curious to see which media player everyone uses. I personally like Windows Media Player 10 best. It has 5 online music stores (Napster, Wal-Mart Music, MSN Music, MusicNow, and MusicMatch) as well as an online movie rental/purchase store (CinemaNow) integrated into the player. The selection of music is very impressive. Much larger than Itunes. There are also little changes in interface and egornomics that make WMP 10 the best player in my opinion. It's so simple to burn, rip, and it looks simple to sync with an MP3 player (I don't have one to try it ). I have over 100 hours of music and it's all easily organized. Anyway, that's my choice. Even better than WMP 9 and better than any other player around in my opinion.

I hope I didn't leave any major contendors off the pole.

I've always used WMP 10, but right now I've downloaded iTunes, and I am converting all my music (about 13 gigs) to AAC. I'm gonna see how I like it compared to WMP10. I'm also going to check out the differences between the stores.

I'm have to say Winamp. I started using Winamp back in the early 2 versions I guess (windows 98se days anyway) and I always found WMP would make my hunk of junk at the time crash. Found Winamp and sticked with it. I've seen Itunes at a friends house and didn't think anything too speical about it.

On a side note, I've been using Fedora primarily and therefore XMMS.

WMP 10 natively supports ripping to MP3. Just a heads up to anyone wondering. I've seen some confusion over that lately.

one problem with winamp, in the free version you can only rip in 2x aac, needless to say it takes a bit to rip a full cd.

edit:i never tried ripping in other formats, just the default,
as I usually use wmp

Still using WMP 9 here. I upgraded from the version that came with XP. Talk about how much unimpressed I am with it. I refuse to install version 10 unless I really really need it.

What's "unimpressive" about it? Just curious. I though WMP 9 was much better than any previous version and WMP 10 is even better.

I have a question that's minorly off the subject. Are there any online music stores that allow you to listen to something before you buy it? I would like to listen to a song to make sure it's the one that I want, rather than pay a buck and never listen to it.

WMP 10 here.

Use RealPlayer and then type in the name of a song. I've found you can stream the whole song and sometimes even the video as well.

WMP 10 here works great and the added feature are stupendous , especially that thing that pops up when file locations are non existent and are removed
Burn List option is nice too . why do people use Winamp again? oh yeah ! cause they have pretty skins.....

I use WMP 10 now. I also have Music Match 8.0 and have used the newer winamp and Quintessential. I think WMP 10 is really good. It's better than Music Match 8.0-9.0 and nearly as good with sound as quintessental (QCD).Even if it wasn't microsoft that put out this player it would still be about the best. That may no last long but as of now overall it literally licks alot of tale for ease of use and seamless rips and burns. I have stuff ripped at high quality MP3 with WMP and it sounds great.

Where is media player classic? I use it for video.

For audio files, I use Winamp.

I don't particularly like it. I loved the CD Player that debuted with Windows 95, was present in Windows 98, and was enhanced in Windows 2000. It was such a good program that used very little resources and did not have a disturbing interface or tried to take over all of my file associations. It just did its work: play CDs.

I like sometimes the concept of integration, but for the most part I find it very annoying. M$ and all the other companies/individuals that develop these programs now want to integrate everything in their players and oust the competition from one's PC. Back in the days, I used CD Player for CDs, Winamp for MP3s, WMV for videos, and Quicktime. Now I find that all the players support all the types of media and want my PC as the battleground for their feuds.

Another annoying thing anent integration is that those programs really don't have much advanced options, or even simple options that would make life easier. In CD Player I would just pop in a CD in the tray and it would start playing, no questions asked. Now, I do so and I have to answer questions anent whether I want to make Winamp my default player, I have to dig under the menus to find the options I want, creating play lists is a pain, and so forth.

That's why I don't like WMP. The only reason I upgraded was because I wanted to listen to a local radio station in my PC. And even doing that is a royal pain in the arse, as the stupid program never remembers the location of the station. Every time I want to listen to it I have to go to the web page, click on the link and then it opens. Heck, I don't even have to do that with my normal radio.

Well I can say that creating playlists is much more simple in WMP 10. Also, CD's start playing automatically. I have never had a problem with file associations. An easy way to avoid that is not install a bunch of media players. I really like how I don't have to open seperate programs to do different things. But that's just me.
