FireFox : the guinea pig speaks....
Since I'm the official "first trier" for family and friends I've been using FireFox since Tuesday.
So far I have these results : My bank now accepts FireFox as a browser, Linkification had to be updated, installing FireFox 1.0 was easy and all the bookmarks carried over with no trouble (Yes, you have to uninstall the previous version. ). You still can't download from Microsoft update with it, and Movielink doesn't work with it either, yet ( They've got a helpful little notice that they're "expanding their functionality". I assume that means other OSs and other browsers) but those are the only problelms I've had (I switched back to IE to for downloads). Also LinuxWorld, a site that had refused to display properly with the earlier versions of FireFox, now shows up as it should ( I refuse to get political but a Linux site that works with IE but not FireFox? ). I'm not having any problems with shopping on-line but then I didn't have any problems before. If this keeps up for a few more days I''m going to install FireFox as the default on the computers of everyone who'll let me.

The only problem I have had with 1.0 is that not all my themes work with it, but overwise everything is absolutly fine.

I did not have to uninstall my Preview version before I upgraded to 1.0.

Yes...I've found FF1.0 to be very similar to FF1.0PR, though the themes not working is somewhat disturbing to me.

The install upgraded my themes that were compatible and disabled the ones that weren't. I'm assuming that the writers are hard at work upgrading their funcionality to work with the release version. I hope so, there's a couple that I really like.

When I loaded 1.0 Linkification needed to be upgraded, Adblock didn't ( I now know why glc didn't want us to use Adblock, but didn't "deep holing" a URL have the same effect? What did I miss? )
I'm now checking out the other extensions that I didn't want to use when I had the beta and pre-release versions, so far no problems. |
