Interesting Hotmail Virus Alert

Interesting. I have been alerted by several of my users that a virus has been sent to their account. All virus scanners are up to date using Trend-Micro Enterprise addition, an awesome product by the way. Both have sent Word files (.doc). I know for sure that it didn't contain a virus since it was sent to about 200 people and the only one reporting a virus was on Hotmail. After testing, I was able to get this message when I sent an Word doc to my Hotmail account:

Unknown virus scanner failure Virus Found

Interesting that it gave this error but not always. It looks like the problem is that the virus scanner on Hotmail failed and the default message was to generate the message and block the file. I guess that Hotmail upgraded their capacity but not their virus scanner, which is McAfee of all things.

I have never been overly impressed with McAfee, many times I have had Norton and AVG pick up a virus from a hotmail email that McAfee has totaly missed. About a year ago my daughter who lives in the UK was always sending me things on hotmail and at least 25% contained viruses that hotmails' McAfee missed.
Having said that at least it's not as bad as the ISP Wanadoo in France, a friend of mine lives there and he gets around 50 or 60 emails a day, 4 or 5 are actually for him and the rest are all viruses. He brought his lap top here with him once and accessed his emails and showed me, I couldn't believe it.

To add to that, I have AVG find many more then Norton.
