First time EBAY buyer

Well I'm considering buying a 7" tft LCD screen from EBAY and this will be my first purchase ever there. Any hints or tips anyone feels like sparing on how not to get ripped off or the best way to get the best price would be well apreciated.

From one consumer to the next,
Chase B.

Honestly, I just read the user reviews. Just bought something on ebay the other day. I havent got it yet but I entered the tracking number, that I was given by the seller, on fedex.com and they did pick it up. Ordered an SD card a while ago and got it a few days later, in perfect condition, not even out of the hard plastic that it was bought in.

I would say buyer beware, do as many checks as possible (as in the user reviews), especially if decent money is involved.
I know of a recent case where a PS2 display box was sold for nearly $200 Australian dollars, the buyer being mislead to think the PS2 was actually in it when it infact wasn't... he didn't read the fine print and cryptic messgaes. Not meaning to scare you, just reminding you that it is the world wide web, it aint as safe to play here anymore
hey I just found it (I am 98% this happened but I don't know i the final transaction was put through) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....e=STRK:MESO:IT ... note the following

"Note: The back of the PS2 box says "For Display Purpose Only", this should be considered when comprehending the concept of "Comes with all original items."

Just be careful... my ten cents worth.

Seems okay. Call me paranoid but the way he wrote it with the backround colors and all makes it very hard to read. Could be so that you miss something. I'm probably wrong though. Heres what really caught my eye.

Negative feedback rating- UNIT NOT AS ADVIRTIZED,HE TRIED TO CUT A DEAL FOR LESS MONEY .NOT INTERESTED IN

Reply by dynamixcomp: Valid comment, laptop has 32MB less then listed on auction, Didn't want for less

The seller actually admited to the false advertising, but the other reviews look good, only looked at the first page though. There was a nuetral rating but the comment was posted in some other language. If someone here can understand it maybe its a valid complaint.

I guess as you can have dodgy sellers, but I am sure jus as fairly, some buyers might be questionable too... his/her record his pretty clean to me but I am not an Ebay expert.
If it was me, i don't know, that tacky type of spiel doesn't really attract me. At the end of the day it is your money, your choice.

Well I'm going to be using this for a computer mod........so all i'm gunna want is the inards. I actually read all the negative reviews and most are just about it taking a long time to deliever, but with free shipping what can you expect.

P.S. I've done research on this monitor so I only read the spiel to humor myself. I'm sure this is what I want, now if its good quality I dont know. But I didnt put my maxium bid to high so i'll probably be out bid anyway.

Exclamation First time eBayer

My wife and I both have accounts w/ebay. We have used it quite a bit. I personally shop around quite a bit for something I want. I have yet to be taken. That said however my wife has been taken and lost about $100.00. I, like some one else mentioned earlier not real crazy about his/her graphics on the page. I wonder what they might be trying to hide. I noticed it said a seven inch monitor? You might want to check out the manufacturer's web site for this model and check on it's real specs. It could be just a typo, but check it out a little closer before you put any more bids in on this item. Try and contact the seller as well to get clarification. If you don't like what you see try and retract your bid. Ebay will allow bid retractions under certain circumstances. Bottom line always be a bit skeptical about what you read.

Also, be careful of the pricing - most things are not as good as they seem. Take a look at this and tell me what's wrong with this Kingston HyperX RAM PC3200 GIG of memory.

5 USD buy it now is awfully cheap...is that a good deal? Look closely. I too was almost fooled.

Don't ruin it for the others! It's a good training on how to look at these ebay sales.

LoL, that's just wrong. That's almost as bad as the guy who bought the empty PS2 box for $200.

Is there any way to report this to ebay, he is clearly violating there rules, couldn't find a handy "report this" link anywhere.

I missed the link, eBay apparently has pulled it. What was the pricing issue?
I am curious as all get out now!

$5.00 to buy and $75.00 to ship? or something like that?

I think it was like $230 to ship or something extreme like that, this is what I picked out too but didn't want to ask as people were still guessing... was this it? (And if that was in American dollars which it seemed to be then ouch!!)

some one asked earlier if that was legal to do o eBay and apparently the answer is yes. As I stated earlier my wife and I are frequent visitors and people do that quite regularly. However I have never seen such an extreme example.

Btw thank you HyperTF for the answer. I was going nuts with curiosity.

Yes - I do appologize to Jackson for going slightly off topic on this little trivia but it is a good way to train for ebay shopping. The product costs 5 USD, but the shipping costs 215 USD - combined, they are in excess of what would usually be considered an acceptable price for used RAM.
