Xbox and Linux

Hey,

Is there a legal way to put Linux on your xbox? Do you have to have a mod chip -- I read an article on cnet saying that a company had found a way to do it without a mod chip but was waiting for Microsoft's permission before they released their results. I think it would be kind of cool to turn your xbox into a computer.

Thanks. I read the FAQ and am wondering what people do once they've turned it into a pc. I mean, it only has 64 mb of ram, do people mainly do this just for he heck of it? There's not much you can really do with it.

Yes, the same reason that people climb Mt. Everest or overclock their PC plus the thumbing your nose at Microsoft by running Linux on their Xbox.

I suppose one benefit is being able to use the dvd player. But I think the negatives outweight the positives on this one. I might give it a shot on down the road when a new console replaces it and I dont play it as often. Plus I actually do play xbox live now and then.
