The easiest way would be to use a tuner card.

Fire up your Google - and search for xbox vga adapter - several hits. When you see the price, I think you will go out and buy a cheap TV or a tuner card.

I know there are things that have composite/S-video inputs on them and connect to a monitor but I can't think of what they are called and thus I cannot find any.

Connecting it to a TV tuner should be just like connecting it to a TV. There shouldn't be any frame rate penalty. The picture quality depends on the tuner card.

I have my Xbox connected to my computer through a tv tuner card. The signal reaching the monitor is, yes, the same signal that would reach your television (providing that you wouldn't be using an HDTV connection). However, IMO the picture is better since my (or any other) CRT monitor is a better display than any non-HD television. In particular, I never see those annoying horizontal stripes that show themselves on a regular television hook-up.

Now, someone will have to help me out here... I know there is a way to make use of the full Xbox resolution on a computer monitor. That is, make use of the high-fidelity component signal. I *think* the cheapest way to do it involves buying the VGA converter that glc was mentioning. Someone give some feedback on this.

You don't really need to spend the money on a TV Tuner card... you just need a video capture card and an audio input on your mobo. I use an AverMedia Capture Card and it's fantastic (and also only $41.00!!). I have my xbox into it and use NeoTV as the capture/display software. My TV works fine and I still have my xbox through my PC. Plus, you can click record and it captures everything that's happening. Granted it is not crystal clear or anything, but it's not terrible either. Five stars out of five in my opinion.

Edit: THIS THING looks pretty cool too.

viewsonic makes some adapters you can use, but they would cost almost as much as a new 19" color TV. Maybe you can rent or borrow a TV???

Considering you can buy a 20 inch color TV at Wallymart for 89 bucks, that really does sound like the best option to me - and you can even watch TV on it!
