n00b - ? HCL alternatives ?

I came accross y'all doing a search on whether a 3comm EtherLink III (3C589D) is compatable on a Dell Optiplex GX110 w/550 MHz running W2k. BTW they're both obsolete.

I tried a forum search for "HCL", but didn't get what I was looking for. Any ideas where I would find this info?

That's a PCMCIA card - how are you gonna install it in a desktop computer?

Win2K does not have a native driver, and 3Com doesn't have one for it either.
