Memory for digital camera

Im buying the Sony DSC-L1 digital camera, and would like to purchase either 512 mb of 1 GB of memory for it. Im having a bit of toruble figureing out what kind will be compatible, and hwat a good price is. Could anyone point me to some good priced compatible memory?

is $72 a good price for 512 mb of Memory Stick PRO Duo Media?

the camera says it uses Memory Stick Pro Due media, but will this memory work?

the memory you linked to will not work. sony uses a propriety memory format, and it looks like you are stuck with the memory stick. afaik, $72 isn't too too bad a price for a 512 stick. memory stick pro tends to be more expensive than other memory card formats.

jimmyrules712, I have the Sony DSC-717 and use the memory stick.

I use the memory stick put out by lexar and works fine. Have used others and they work fine also. Brand dosen't seem to matter, also I dont tend to worry about speed.

Look on Newegg or Zipzoomfly for the best price.

Advise that you watch the lager memory sticks, if you opt for 1 gig or better, if something happens you will lose a lot of pictures.

Check and see how many pictures you can get at the resolution you use most, according to the size of memory stick you will be using.

I favor 128, 256 and 512 sizes. Some times smaller is better and just get more of them. Then you don't "put all your eggs in one basket" so to speak

Also, you might want to get a card reader for your computer, they have external that plug into usb port and internal which is very nice.

Hope this helps and gool luck w/new camera..................Sterling

When I was shopping around for memory for my camera, surprisingly the best price was to be found on amazon.com.

Remember that your camera requires MemoryStick PRO DUO. This cannot be interchanged with MemoryStick memeory, or MemoryStick PRO memory or MemoryStick DUO memory, it has to be PRO DUO. At this time, you are limited to buying a max of 512MB on the PRO DUO format, because that is the largest available that Sony makes.
From newegg I see 2 choices but both are not in stick:

If you haven't bought the camera yet, then I would say that you should get a different Sony. If you're looking for small size above all else, you can find the DSC-T1 for around the price of the L1 when the T1 is on sale. And if you don't care about size too much, the DSC-P93 or DSC-P100 are only a bit bigger, but are better cameras and are also cheaper.

Sony really needs to lower the price of the MemoryStick. I can get a 1 GB SD card for the same price as the 512 MB MemoryStick. Why does Sony always seem to push their own formats when there is no need to? Their oeverpriced memory is one reason I won't buy one of their cameras.
