What a surprise, I have lost count of the number of people who have told me they didn't get quite what they went for in the advert, not as bad as the cases listed in that article but similar.
Dell advertise down here in PR and when you phone up you are switched through to a call centre in Mexico and the offers are never the same as advertised.

Ah yes, more "ammo" to help customers make a decision on my building their new computer or buying a Dell. Thanx Dell!

ok, good aplace as any to post this one.
Watch the latest Dell commericals, the ones that started before christmas, and have been edited to be post christmas. The one where the dad ask the kid what model computer he wants. The kid starts naming off items in the computer, it is designed to make it appear the kid knows everything about computers and is going to request the best of everything. couple items are just wrong in the way they are put, such as requesting a Shared Memory(for the video) Why would you every request that? 8X AGP 64meg shared DDR memory or something like that. A bit later, he says 256meg PCI express video I believe. I believe he wants both AGP and PCI express video, but I know he request Shared DDR ram, trying to make people believe Shared DDR is a great thing. Gigibit ethernet, pointless for a single computer, even with brandband. I would have to sit down and watch the whole commerical, but next time you see it, pay attension to what all he wants. The system he talks about would be a couple thousand dollars, even asking for 4g of Ram. I am tried, i don't feel like proof reading or spell checking anything. just random thoughts tonigth.

If you can find that commercial I'd like to see it.

Which is why I tell people never to call the support number. I always tell them to call the Canadian support phone number. That is still located in Canadia.

I think a lot of these complaints are due to sloppy consumers. I honestly believe that if you buy the advertised product you will get it at the advertised price. As soon as you hit that customize button, all bets are off. The difference between a 30gig and 40 gig HDD may only be $10 if you are paying full price for the system, if you are paying the discount price, the difference may be $200 or more by the time you get back to full price. The reason those systems can be offered at such a low price is that they are mass produced with those specs. Adding different components eliminates the company's savings in production costs and the difference is passed on to the consumer. Just my $.02.
