Free credit reports start today for the Midwest
Today, people living in Midwestern states (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin) can get their free credit report mandated by a new law. This law allows you to get one free credit report per year. People living in western states have been able get this since December, and by September the service will be available to everybody.
If you are in one of these state, go to https://www.annualcreditreport.com/ to get your credit report. Studies show that most credit reports have errors in them (I have certainly found a lot of errors in mine over the years), and these errors can affect your ability to get credit. Also, checking your credit report can alert you to identity theft. Take advantage of this! |

Definitely a good thing to take a look at. I got mine back in December when it first became available. I found a derrogatory mark on mine that I never would have known about otherwise. It was from the previous state I lived in the midwest. Since I had moved, the company couldn't call or mail out of state to tell me that I owed them money. So aside from looking at my credit report, I don't think I would have ever found out about it.
So now I've decided to look at mine quarterly
