Talk About "Luck"

I've been running around all morning and even some highway driving in my 1970 VW. As I pulled into my apt. complex my brake pedal went all the way to the floor. Used my emergency brake to drive up 4 ramps of the parking garage; master cylinder dry as a bone. Happened soon as I went over a speed bump. How I miss my former house with big garage. Timing is everything so am lucky today.

LOL... yup.. .timing is everything... reminds me of the fun I had with my Mustang. I drove to Saskatoon and back (about a 2.5 hour drive) on a Tuesday, then again for a concert on Wednesday... the next morning, drove half way across town and bust the timing belt.... better in town that in the middle of nowhere.

Somthing like that happened to me awhile back. On my way home from the soccer practice and all of the sudden that van made a sound like rocks in a coffee can. The transmissions' rear support bolts snapped and dropped the transmission on the front axal(sp) and snapped it. Exactly one week after that the front bolts on the newly "fixed" transmission mount snapped and snapped the new axal(sp). And I had bad luck a 3hr wait for the AAA tow truck the first time then an 1.5 hr wait the second time.

Begged a ride to the shop 9 miles away yesterday to get my Bug. While there I checked the fanbelt as has been breaking pulleys lately, or vice-versa. The owner peeked it over and saw the problem was the generator bearing chewing things up. Sooo....I left it and walked 9 miles home since our local transit system doesn't serve that part of town. Today it's ready so get to walk 9 miles back to get it. Suburbs stink when it comes to mass transit.

Problem with a Bug and a bike is the trunk is up front so if you put the bike in the trunk you have to poke your head out the window for 9 miles to see ahead of you

I have had three lucky breaks that could have been disasterous.

1. The timing belt in my 1990 Civic broke a few years ago. However, it happened the first time i turned the key one morning and it didn't cause any damage. It was towed into a shop and repaired.

2. The power steering pump on my truck died while backing the Airstream into the driveway after a 2.5 hour trip home. That could have been real bad if it happened on the freeway especially with the trailer. It was basicly impossible to steer.

3. A CV joint on my Civic broke in my driveway a few years ago. Better their than anywhere else. It was towed and fixed.
