Pissed I wanna know how much should aguy get paid for Labour

I bought a computer from a single man computer business operation and am wondering if i paid him too much money. I went through hundreds of websites including this one and found out the prices of all of the components of the system and then subtracted that from what I paid the man for the job. I then found out that I paid him about $215.00 for the labour. But listen to this I ordered the computer on a monday and he told me he would have it done by the thursday of that week. But when thursday came he told me he wasnt done check back in a WEEK!!!!!!!! It then took him 2 more weeks to finish with my computer That I allready PAID for!!!!!! I was then pretty disapointed when I got the Computer home and there was no RAM in the computer!!!!!!!!!!! I had ordered from him three 512mb sticks of RAM and even the Bill of SALE said I was right. It then took him one week to call me and say I could come pick up my RAM. So after him telling me it would take only 4 days It took him 25 days. I am pretty ticked and then when i looked up the prices i was pissed that I paid him $215.00 for the "JOB" he really didnt do.

Please send me somthing.
Someone whos bought a computer and paid for Labour.
Or even better yet someone who builds computers for a living.

Thanks Sgt.Death19

lotsa things to take into consideration here , one man shops dont have the coin to go around around like the big guys do so sometimes you have to wait for parts to get delivered, maybe he was behind on some payments and couldnt get your parts right away etc etc and for 215$ was that with the OS install also? Id say thats reasonnable for about 6 hours to do a complete build . I know it took a while but it must feel good inside that you helped a small entrepeneur get some business.

I dont build them for a living, but rather for some extra cash. I usually charge about 200$ for the labor, os install and everything. If i know the person or there trying to keep it cheap ill only charge 100$ for it, but im not doing it to make a living so it dosent matter very much. From the day i get the parts i try to finish it the next day, then just use it for a day or so to make sure all is well.

The $215 sounds like a reasonable profit figure. The type of service you received was less than tolerable tho'! That's most likely what got you ticked in the first place - not getting what you ordered when it was originally promised and then having to take it back for a memory problem. Communication is one of the most important aspects of business. I make it a personal priority to keep all my customers informed of any delays I encounter. Much better for me to call them and 'fes up than for me to miss a promise date and they have to call me. I follow the same rule in my regular sales job. No one likes to think they've been "used" or "lied to". If you agreed to the price before you paid your money, then consider it must have been reasonable to you at that point. Seems like the price only became an issue when the service sucked and you began to think you weren't getting what you paid for. Chaulk it up to experience and find a new supplier for future work. Hopefully, you won't have any warranty issues and have to deal with Mr. Speedy again!

I build and repair computers for a living and $215 doesn't seem that bad, quite honestly I echo Panama Red's sentiments to the letter. It does seem that the time scale is what soured this deal.

To me it sounds neither like the price or time, but the quality of the work being done. Come on a person who builds computers doesn't put in the ram? I would also check to see if you got the components that you order for he might have short change you in that department also.

Lesson learned as above...
Something to consider that I learnt when buying a new car: you can actually specify that the fully operational purchase (in this case a computer) must be delivered by a certain date or the deal is off. This stands up in court so long as it is written on both copies of the bill of sale, and is signed by both of you. This means if he fails to deliver, and his service is below what you expect, you can legally pull the plug and get all your money back.

I believe the going rate for a build is 10%-15% of the cost of the parts. That's not including the O/S installation.

Cmon, bigz. That's a bit extreme. Another frivilous lawsuit is the last thing we need in this country - small claim or otherwise.

The buisness arrangement has been completed. No need to sue, and I'm not even sure how well it would stand in court since it was completed.

Just make a mental note to take your buisness elsewhere next time.
