I noticed they were increasing today, when I accessed the g-mail page it had a counter for how much storage you will have, and it reached 1411MB, I though to myself while surely that is just marketing. Log into my account and sure enough there was 1411MB shown avaliable at the bottom of the page.
Google never fails to amaze me. It's hard to believe it's free with minimal extra catches. To this day I haven't noticed any of the ads put near my e-mails. . . L J

They know we're never going to use it, so even if they only give us 500 mb, they can call in a terrabyte and we'll never know the difference. And then they can make it that if we do come close to the 500mb limit, then they'll move it up another 100mb. This way, they arent giving up that much space, but they arent lying either, because you can use up to what they are telling you. I mean, this has become my primary email address, and I'm only using 5 mb so far.

I think it is a great idea to operate in such a way, if Google were to try to give out such a large amount of space all at once that would be quite an expense, and really un-necessary. As you said, not everyone will use all that space right away.I myself kinda wonder just how many of the full accounts are using Google for file-storage. . . I haven't deleted anything and I'm only at 51MB (4%) after about a month, with no spam. L J |

You could use gmailfs if you have linux, it's awesome:
http://richard.jones.name/google-hac...ilesystem.html There is also this app for windows that does the same thing, I haven't tried it yet myself: http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm It mounts the mailbox as a drive, allowing you to store files there. Keep the 10 MB transfer limit in mind.
