Free stuff question

No, Im not giving a link to a site for free stuff, but I had a question about those sites. Lately alot of people have been posting links to those sites, and they are told you get a TON of spam in return, and right about then the thread is closed.

I was wondering if the sites that offer the free stuff and then sell your address to spammer are legal.

Like the one for Ipods? Yeah, completly legal. It operates under the same principal as the free gifts you get for credit card signups at football games. Most people complete the offers and cancel, but there is always those few people that continue with whatever the service is, and bring the money back in.

There's no such think as a free lunch when it comes to these offers. You have to pay for it somehow.

This is why I abide by the one true statement: Nothing is free. And the statement: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Then why dont you just make a completely new email address specifically for that? Then once you get your free thing, never log on to that address again.

It seems like it would be a pretty good idea to start a site like that myself, you spend a few thousand on someone and make twice as much from them.

As was stated, nothing is free. To get your "free" whatever, you have to sign up for "free" offers and other offers. There are things like subscribing to Columbia House CD/DVD club, trying "free" subscription meds (you pay shipping), magazine subscriptions... trust me.. it WILL cost you.

Meh its something thats not worth my time. I rather suspect a good chunk of this stuff is, plainly and simply, a scam. You may never get your free thing. In the end, I would rather pay for the product from a more legit source, and actually know that I will get the product (like actually buying from the store), than risk getting gipped after a ridiculous amount of effort to get a "free" ipod, or camera, or whatever these sites are offering.

Just my 2 cents
