non PC related, has to do with a pet.
As a few of you may know, my wife and I adopted a young cat, about 6-8 months old from the local pound recently.
We had to nurse her back to health and then get her all fixed, so there will be no kittens. Anyways, she seems well adjusted now and has invented a game on her own. She likes to play fetch. She has a couple toys and she will play by herself for a while and then she will bring it over and drop it near you and cry until you throw it. She will go get it, play a moment and bring it back. I sat on the floor for 30 minutes last night with her and she was bring it back and dropping it in my hand. I never expected a cat to play fetch, as I could never get a dog to play fetch. I just wanted to share that.

She's a cutie, Byte. Wife and I have 3 cats, all neutered females, and only one of them is a "fetcher". Her fetch toys of choice are small plastic balls with a bell inside. When she wants to play, she'll bring a ball in my computer room (I usually hear the jingle comin'!) and drop it near my chair on the hardwood floor. Then she'll meow to get my attention if I don't talk to her right away. I toss the ball down the hallway to the dining room and she'll bring it back over and over til she tires of the game. One of the other cats is her sister and she'll join in the chasing of the ball but she's not into the returning it part.

she loves that game. I posted because I was sitting here on the net and she is playing right now, and has been. She is full of energy.

There was a cat that we had for a while, my daughter taught it how to play fetch... unfortunately (or should I say fortunately).. it got out and ran away one day.... I say fortunately because that cat had THE WORST gas.... We tried different foods and such.. but that thing just plain smelled bad.

My brother has a cat that fetches. An orange one named Muggs. This is the first I have heard of another playing fetch, that's cool. My brothers won't fetch everything though...only tin foil balls. It's weird.
![]() I guess with so many people online, there was bound to be others who had a cat that fetches. I just never figured to ask, I thought it was super-super rare. Maybe it isn't though, I haven't had many cats. Only two when I was a youngin'. |

Cats make great pets. I have two myself. I have never figured out why so many people don't like them. Maybe its their independence? Maybe it's that they don't see any need to please you?
You earn a cats trust. Cats don't give you their trust without earning it first. Win their trust and they become great pets. When they come over on their own, sit in your lap and demand petting...you have won their trust. Never try to force them to do something. It's something they have to initiate. You can coax them into doing something but you can never force them to do something. Everthing they do must be on their terms, not yours. Their job will never be to please you. Your job is to please them, as they see it. Understand this, and you will understand cats.

I used to hate cats, because they used to hiss and scratch me for no apparent reason. Plus they're very demanding pets, whereas ignore a dog it won't get stroppy with you. My girlfriend has since brainwashed me into liking most cats nowadays though
I'm so owned

I love cats. I have two of them ( PIC ). Frisky (white) and Frito (black). They both have such unique personalities and I can never figure them out. Frito gets super hyper sometimes and will attack ANYTHING. I don't know if they like each other or not. one minute they'll be fighting and the next they will be sleeping as shown in the picture. I don't get it.
My cat, Frito, has also decided that he likes to sit on my shoulder. He'll climb up there and sit while I walk around doing whatever I'm doing. He also refuses to drink out of a bowl. The only way I can get him to drink water is to turn on the kitchen faucet and let him drink out of it. Cat's are just odd!

Sleeping in master's bed! My favorite! EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DAILY DIARY: Day 183 of My Captivity: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant. Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded; must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair, must try this on their bed. Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm, not working according to plan. There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary confinement throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More importantly, I overheard that my confinement was due to my power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage. I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant, he speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the high metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time ....

How many dogs do you know of that you can just leave alone in the house for the weekend and not worry about them crapping all over the floor. I just heap up the bowl with food, give them a huge water bowl (toilet is there should they run out and get desperate, but that's never happened) and a clean litter box and I leave.. no worries. |

Red...WOW..your right about the fairer sex. I never thought of it that way! ROFL!
Hi Ho, yeah it is funny how cats wont drink out of a bowel. My theory is they won't drink stagnant water that has been sitting there for any length of time. My cat will only drink from the toilet, the sink, the shower or from the hose. Must be some sort of instinct. Generally in nature running water has less bacteria but who knows for sure.. Cats might be cute and all, but they do very little in the area of service such as rescue and therapy dogs.

My cat plays the same game except he uses the clear caps from water bottles. As soon as he sees a water bottle he goes upto it and tries to chew the cap off. I recently cleaned my room and found 29 of them under my bed.

Well, I have several cats, and one of them has invented her own version of Fetch -- you throw the toy, she runs over and bats it around a little, and then she expects you to go over and fetch the toy! She makes it perfectly clear: "Meow meow meow! Come fetch my toy!" Sheesh. You'd think we're her servants or something... Oh wait.

I'm attaching a couple of pictures; Moth was our original kitten (she's a bit more than two years old) and has had two litters of four each. We kept Amelia (the one with her own version of Fetch) and Maurice from the first litter and sold Jackie and Maureen, and the second litter is very young (I just took the picture from this one a couple of days ago). We're naming this litter after the Knights of the Round Table: Lance (Lancelot), Percy (Percival), Gary (Gareth), and Gwen (Guineviere).
I have one more picture of a sleeping kitten from this litter if anyone wants to see it. |

One last post in this string of posts by me -- our cats (Moth, Amelia and Maurice, but not the kittens yet) love chasing pipecleaner toys. Make a donut shape out of a pipecleaner and they'll be occupied for... well, for several minutes, at least. Maurice also likes to bat around bottle caps, but he's the only one of my cats that likes that.

In answer to many of you saying your cat won't drink out of a bowl... is the bowl plastic??
If so, the issue is probably that the plastic bowl retains smells, and many cats don't like it. What you should do is replace it with a ceramic bowl, as this is more like nature, where the cats would be drinking out of rock pools etc. Some cats don't adjust to the new bowl well, so what you do is put it in the sink and fill it with running water in front of the cat, then encourage it to drink out of it |
