Why was there such a stampede if it took from 7am to 1pm to sell all the laptops anyway? Some people are nuts.

I am left speechless. Does this lady have a brain? Sure, everybody wants a deal for a laptop, but should they stop Life in the process?

A person who would do something like this has much bigger problems than urine-soaked pants. I'm all for a good deal, but this kind of thing is absolutely assinine! These people would trample their own mothers if they could save a couple hundred bucks.

the county has changed from apple laptops to dell.
they actually had more than 1k, but some seniors were able to go and buy them first for 50 bucks.
the rest went on sale to the county residents.
believe me man, henrico didnt lose any money on this.
lottery money paid for a good portion of these laptops.

david m, no that was not me. i was at work.
the young lady who urinated on herself, a stroller was crushed, some people who were near the front of the line, didnt even get a laptop. just madness.

Of course they lost money.
1000 units X $50/unit = $50,000
1000 units X $300/unit = $300,000

Potential income lost, $250,000.
I don't the exact value of the laptops but it was much more then $50 as evident from the horde of people that showed up.

How many were they selling? I would have rather seen the laptops sold to a school at the same price, or heck even donated, it was obvious they just wanted to get rid of them.

Seriously....auction them! People go nuts for these kinds of deals. A friend who works at office max told me the other day about a deal they had, some 80 gig hard drive external for very cheap. You know how these things work--they send them out advertisements in the sat paper, sales dont start till sunday. He said sunday there was a whole crowd waiting at the door and they all rushed in looking all over for it (thses are ALWAYS limited quantity), people came up to him running and asked where it was...one guy already knew and got the ONE external drive that was in stock...just insane.

They switched from apple to dell?? Man... well i guess from an education standpoint windows is better, but they should have kept those old laptops or at least half of them or something. My school gets new thinkpads for teachers, so they put wireless connections on the old ones and set them up with a little cart that holds them and a laser printer on top. teachers can request them and they bring em over to the class for you to use, you can print wirelessly. Of course alot of the laptops are in very bad condition, but they are still very new with win2k...If they sold em off cheap id sure still want one...They wouldnt be giving them away cheap, in fact im sure theyd sell them all for more then they are worth.
