Choosing car tires
I think I need new tires for my 02 Hinda Civic Sedan EX. It has 25,300+ miles on it and I never replaced the tires that came with it. I'll probably change it before winter starts (or after the 1st snow storm). So, how would I go around picking new tires?
I went on google and found 2 tires. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...65HR5H4S_qty=4 BFGoodrich Traction T/A H Yokohama AVID H4S I'm leaning towards the Yokohama but I'm not really sure what I'm doing. The most important tire trait for me is handling (specially in rain/snow). I drive about 70% of the time in highways (Garden State Parkway, NJ Turnpike). My avg. speed is probably 70-75mph on dry, clear weather. Next attribute would be price, followed by tread life, and lastly by ride comfort/noise. Also, a number of people said to have them installed at BJs (or somehwere) where they offer free rotation/balancing for as long as I own the tires. Thanks

how bad are the snow storm there in New Jersey? My recommendation if the winters are bad then go some snow tires for the winter and for summer get a good brand of summer tire like yokohama, toyo, or bridgestone. Maybe Michelin of you prefer those. Just watch the toyo brand because they have begun to make the cheaper line in china instead of japan which would be a superior tire.

The Yokohamas should have a bit longer tread life - the BFG is UTQG rated 440 AA A and the Yokohama is 500 AA A. Traction and temperature ratings are the same.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=48 I buy my tires at Sam's Club and take the optional full service package, it's well worth it. My last set was Goodyear Eagles. |

Snow in NJ range from 4ft. to snow flurries (from my experience anyway 2000-present). I don't plan on buying winter tires. If my car can't handle the snow, then I won't drive. Civics aren't designed for snow driving anyway.

I always get my tires at NTB. They have generics that are made by the same companies, just sold under different names. Cooper makes a lot of different brands, the one I bought just last month was Sigma Regent. They look and handle great on my Chrysler. Great tire for the money. NTB also has lifetime rotation and balance. I bought Dunlop Radial Rovers for my Jeep Wrangler, I was pleased with the they performed. Never took it off road, just in the snow. I also had Dunlop performance on my Nissan.
The only time I went anywhere else was when my mother-in-law purchased some tires for my wife's minivan for Christmas. She has a Wal-Mart card so we picked out some Goodyears. That's the only time I went name brand. She insisted on buying them because she has the idea that if they cost more they must be better.

The Yokohamas in my opinion have a harsh ride, I usually go with Michelin and Goodyear.

I went with Canadian Tire branded tires on my car... they're manufactured by Goodyear.. handle nice with a decent ride for a low profile 16" tire... handle great in the winter too.

glc beat me to the punch suggesting Sam's Club. I don't know if you have Price Clubs near you but it is pretty much the same thing as Sam's. Neither sell junk tires like some of the discount tire stores. I don't know if you know, but all tires have a treadware and traction rating right on the sidewall. You probably want all season tires because of the snow and rain conditions you mentioned...not high performance designed for maximum cornering in dry conditions. I really like the directional tires with the V-groove in tread designed to channel out water.
