A.T.C. Computers in San Diego Heard of them??
I have been thinking of getting a computer built for me and was told by a friend about A.T.C. Computers in San Diego, CA. I'm wondering if anyone here has heard of them or even bought something from them, could you tell me if they are a good place to go to get a computer built?
I want to go somewhere that can make me a computer where I can pick from a list of components, so if anyone knows of a place( not alienware, I've read bad things about them) in San Diego or on the Web please post it. I would build my own computer but right now I'm just looking around, because at this point I'm not yet confident yet to build my own. Thank you for your help P.S. I’m a novice when it comes to computers. |

Everybody starts out as a novice when they build their first computer. I was where you are about a year and a half ago when I was looking at Dell computers for a home computer. I came across the PCMech website and began wondering, maybe I could build my own computer? It seemed really complex and a bit daunting at the time and maybe it was not something I should attempt because for one thing, who would I get help from? The more I hung around this website, the more I realized that there were some really good people here who jump at the opportunity to help others. Given that, I decided to take a bit of a leap of faith and build my own computer. It was an AMD FX-51 that my wife uses now. I have built a second computer since then which helped me to learn even more about computers. The thing I really appreciate about learning how to build my own is that computers are not so intimidating any more. Building my own also saved me money and kept me away from a proprietary computer which are difficult if not impossible to upgrade sometimes.
I think its well worth it to build your own. Having a little knowledge in this field has helped me professionally as well. I think there are more advantages to learning how to build your own than what might appear at first. PCMech is also a great community of people.

First computer I ever built was 11 years ago... an AMD 5x86-133... most complicated thing I thought at the time was getting the case LED, reset and turbo switch set up.

Just recently built my own, and before I built I had only seen the inside of a computer once. I was scared but Iknew I could do it just from reading a lot of stuff. Basicly all I did was plug and play. By this I mean I just "plugged" in all the parts, and it started up, loaded xp, and I was good to go.

If you have access to the computeredge magazine that circulates in San diego check out www.chipsandmemory.com for a machine. I used to deal with them when I was in San diego and they seemed to be pretty competitive. They don't sell alot of the junk that alot of stores in that area sell. Just a thought
