Windows Vista to have 20 SKUs

Here is the article: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26851 and the list of different versions: http://bink.nu/Article5025.bink

I'm looking forward to someone asking me which version to buy and my response: "Don't".

**puts on swami hat to predict future** ... "ultimate" edition will be the popular one... containing features that nobody will use, but claim to, but it's better than home or pro... it's ultimate.

Not sure if PRO will fit the bill how about "Windows Vista Uber Geek Edition"?

I know it's a long shot but I still have hopes for a Windows Vista NO IE Edition

Well of course they will try to mainstream the one that has everything we dont need and nothing we actually will use. For people like me, of course i am going to upgrade to Vista, why not since I already have the 64 bit cpu....

...stupid.

I dont get what the point of all this is. The fact that M$ charges a ton more for XP pro just for a few more networking options is dumb, but this is gunna be even worse. I'd be willing to bet some of the "home" editions wont even allow you to go online unless you're using 56k. You're not paying more to get more features, you're paying more for the versions which have less things taken away.

And that's what software engineers DO all the time! Not just Microsoft. Do you think they make one edition, then sell that. Then do some adding to it, and sell another edition? No, they make the full blown beast, and then disable what they choose and label it how they see fit.

I'm hoping to be on a Mac by the time this crap rolls out next year anyway. I've tried the beta, and I'm not impressed.
