Did anybody see this?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2208778

Did anybody see this? If so, what happened? I didn't watch this game today, I was focused on the Giants and Patriots games - wish I had seen that though. ESPN is downplaying it - I understand why, but I wish for my sake they would play it a couple more times so I could see what happened in its entirety. The only thing besides the extremely quick clip of the guy running shown during the Packers game highlight was a brief article on their website.

You know, in sociology we talk all the time about how we as a society base our actions on perceived fears that have a low probability of occurring. They create huge changes if the fear escalates, and even larger changes if they actually happen. Looks like this might cause some more changes. Oh well.

My friends saw it - they were at Paul Brown when out of nowhere, a fan ran into the field. There it is - more security at Paul Brown, more taxes for us Cincinnatians.

I dont watch football at all but from what i understand some fan took off grabbed the ball and ran, right? I'm not surprised, have u ever seen Soccer. Have u ever seen thousands of fans packed, then in midgame just one side grabbing the chairs (same with other side) and beating themselves helplessly..then the police comes and then they beat with each other even more?? Thats the spirit of the game, if it wasnt for the spirit soccer, football, and basketball would be boring. Ya gotta love it, but i did hear a rumor this summer that if u jump on a soccer field during the game the officials in england i believe will make u run one lap around the soccer field NAKED..usually soccer fields have mile track..so 1/4 of a mile naked, in front of thousands of fans..and international tv..lol how cool is that?

I saw a guy run onto the field at yankee stadium once. It was great. The cops intercepted him and led him off of the field. I don't remember how they intercepted him, but I remember everyone cheering the cops on as the guy was running around with his shirt off like a fool.

The guy was lucky he didn't get wiped out by a 300 pound lineman.

I don't know about that... it seems like this guy was just trying to steal some attention for himself. Getting clobbered by a lineman would be just the thing to attract a whole lot more attention to him. In other words, he probably would have loved it.

I understand what you're saying Stuey, but I don't know anyone who would enjoy being tackled by a 300 lb lineman. Especially without padding - ouch. I have seen it happen though.

Change the rules so that the first team to beat the hell out of any fan entering the field gets extra points.

I saw it replayed later. I think it's stupid for networks to broadcast this stuff, it just encourages more idiots to run on the field so they can get their 15 seconds of fame on ESPN.

I also don't get why this shows a need for "better security." If they really want to prevent this stuff, put a 10-foot high chain link fence around the field. Simple. Short of that, it's pretty much impossible to prevent a fan from jumping over a short wall and running onto the field.

I agree. The claim from the Bengals was that their walls were high enough to discourage people from jumping. They said they caught the man doing it on tape, and the only way he got down was by landing on a cart then getting down from it. I think a direct jump would injure you. Though, on the other hand, you can do some pretty amazing, "painless" things while intoxicated...

I'm going to have to take a different perspective on this, but not necessarily in the instance in question: in Australia, streaking at the cricket is a tradition, and its great fun for all. I mean sure, the game is stopped for a few minutes, but everyone gets a great laugh out of the streaker, and most aren't idiots about it, they just run around until they get caught, and tend not to try steal stuff. Unfortunately, they've now stopped showing them on TV when it happens, to try discourage it, but I think that sucks

Angry Fire

I watched it and it was total BS. There was still a bit of time on the clock and packers where getting into scoring position to tie the game up. Green Bay was doing a no huddle offense to keep the defense from huddling and getting set. Farve takes the snap, drops back, looks downfield, and bam the fan takes the ball and runs, this causes the clock to stop and lets the bengals defense huddle preventing what could have been a game outcome changing play. Grrrrr....that fan pretty much took away green bays momentum. Something should be done, this is also the worst year of officiating I have ever seen, I have nothing else to say on the matter.

Jagg,
The difference between a streaker on the field and this clown is this guy may have affected the outcome of the game. Americans take their football as seriously as other countries take their football (soccer here).

I can just imagine how hard it was for Farve to get 100% of his concentration back on the game

FYI, Mike Curtis was a linebacker for the Baltimore Colts awhile back. During a Colts game a fan jumped out on the field, snatched the ball and took off running. Mike Curtis did what linebackers have been trained to do. He tackled him and tackled him so hard that they carried him off the field on a stretcher. Got the ball back and play resumed. No one tried it again after that.

I understand that, and hence I put the rider that Aussies don't generally effect the cricket game... I was just saying they're not all bad

That BK king freaks me out. The one where the guy gets out of bed, opens the shade and the king is standing right at his window... I've had nightmares like that (minus the fat-normous omellette sandwich)!

I'll be interested to see what happens to that guy. He's a whacko to be sure, but I absolutely got a laugh out of the video.

Did you see when security finally tackled him though? Dude was running along fine, runs one way to avoid a security guard, dodges another guard, then *WHACK*.....the third guard got him. Did a better tackle than I've seen alot of linemen do.....rammed his shoulder into the guys gut, lifted him off his feet, and down to the ground they went. Would've looked like a typical football tackle if the guard had just gotten up and did the celebratory dance.

The King commercials are so weird - that's what makes them funny. I love the NFL ones, but I also like the new logger one where he appears behind a tree that the man just cut down, and offers him a sandwich thing. While it is creepy that BK food can make you as happy as everyone seems after they've eaten it (or the fact that a man with a plastic head is offering you that food), I find them hilarious (and I hate BK food). As Mel Brooks would say, It's good to be da king.

I'm so glad though that they cut the other Burker King commercials concerning the new chicken strips. You know, the really weird ones with the heavy metal band who are dressed like chickens playing a song about BK's new food. That entire line of commercials was just too dark and sadistic for me (though I did like the last one where each band member get killed by oncoming traffic as they tried to cross the road. I think they ended the string of commercials after the entire band died - or at least I would.

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the hot babe and chicken fingers on the other side of course. Duh.
