Confused about forum use.
Hi folks, Old computer dummy here again.
I have never used a forum before this one & am really confused about how to use it. A couple of times have tried to send my limited knowledge to someone & got the message that I am not allowed this privilege. Do I have to sign in on each section? Am I cut off after a certain time length of time? Have PM'd 3 People & received very polite & helpful replys & thank all 3. Any guidance will be appreciated. I am registered & a PC Mech supporter. Thanks, RevCLB |

Depending on your browsers cookies functions - but generally if you are logged on and select save password etc... then you should not have to sign in each time. You need to be signed on to post replies and to start new threads. For me, if I leave the window open for a while and come back and refresh it I have to sign in again, but that is like after 20 minutes and could be a result of my browsers cookies settings.

If you are logged in as you were when you created this thread and you're trying to respond t someone elses question, you simply click on the box at the bottom of the page labeled "Quick Reply" and type your message. Click the "Post Quick Reply" button when you've finished your message and it will be added to the thread.
Another way is to click the "Post Reply" button on the bottom left of the last post. This will bring up an alternate means of posting with additional features. If you want to quote a previous post, simply click the "Quote" button near the bottom right of the post.

There is a 20 minute timeout on the cookie. If you don't do anything for 20 minutes, you may have to log in again.

Asking questions doesn't make you a dummy. It means you want to know the answer. How many questions do you think Einstein or Stephen Hawking would ask in a day.

Another thing to keep in mind is that while sending PM's to people may help solve your problem, it won't help others with similar problems. So it is better to post here when you have a problem than to PM. Once you have gotten some solutions to your problems, then you will be able to help others with their problems. Many people have started here with little knowledge of things and have ended up quite skilled.
