Question Servers????

Ok this is a dumb question but what actualy is a server? My friend says hes getting one.

Any computer can be a server... it's basically a machine to "serve" other computers... can be a FTP file server, a web server, or a general file server. You don't need anything special.... I run a Celeron 1000 with 224MB Ram at home for my FTP, Web, and file server needs... runs plenty fast enough.

Depending on demands though, servers could go high end multi CPU, multi drive, SCSI drives for high throughput, high amounts of RAM.
