Burning people at the stake is also illegal. I did not think that I would need to qualify my statement about religious activities in this way.

BTW, religious people pay taxes just as well as non-religious people. This is one more reason why they should be allowed to put religious displays on public land.

I am waiting for the day that the anti-religious activists want to remove crucifixes and star of David headstones from the graves of war heroes at war cemetaries because it is a "religious symbol on public land". This will happen over my dead body.

And mine.

If they are going to start doing things like that then maybe there should be a law to prevent non-religious people from using phrases like “Oh my God”, “Jesus Christ” and “God ****it” in a cursing or offensive way, because they are defiling a religion.

I would also like to thank you David for pointing out that it's the anti-religious people that are trying to oppress Christians, not people from other religions.

Recently in my area the Islamic community approached the school board about adding their holidays to the school calendar. The school board decided that would be too many holidays and instead removed Jewish and Christian holidays from the calendar. This caused a lot of controversy and the school board reversed its decision. The Islamic community also withdrew its request because this was not the way they wanted it to be. Which I think was very nice of them, not to get all pissed off and file a lawsuit like some groups might do. Had it been anti-religious people and not the Islamic community, there would probably still be a legal battle going on.

As to the specific issue of Christmas decorations on government run property, I have mixed feelings. Because although I don’t mind major religions putting up displays. I would not want to see cult or satanic displays anywhere, especially on government land. So if I had to choose between “everything” and “nothing”, I would choose nothing.

Also a Christmas tree is not a religious symbol. Nowhere in the bible does it say “You shall erect a tree in my name once a year and decorate it with electric lights made in China”. The Christmas tree is actually a pagan tradition, which both Christians and non-Christians have adapted to their own.

Like someone said earlier political correctness is a weakness. It means someone will not say what they believe because they are too afraid of what others (usually a small group) will think.

Separation of Church and State was designed to keep the government from controlling a church like the kings of England controlled the English Church. It was not intended to keep Christmas trees, crosses or menorahs off government property.

This country was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs, our laws are based on Judeo-Christian beliefs, and just because we allow people to worship anyway they want does not mean the government and laws should accommodate them all. If that’s a problem for someone then they are welcome to go find a better country to live in. Good luck.
