The Best Top Gear Episode

I just finished watching what I think is the best Top Gear episode ever. The host of the show takes a 1000 horsepower Bugatti Veyron across Europe racing against a Cessna 182. There is lots of great humor in the show as always.

Nigel Mansel also drives some turkey of a car around their track with some funny moments.

I think this is going to be the future of TV where you sit down with your remote, pick the TV show you want to watch amongst tens of thousands of selections and then the show streams in HD and your off and runnning with no commercials during the show. I have been watching old Top Gear shows this way lately.

I've been watching Top Gear for over 10 years, probably, and I concur that was the best episode I've ever seen. Proud that British television still puts shows like that out, even if it is considered very controversial.

why controversial?

the humor is a little off beat, but nothing to cause any outrage (at least from my perspective)

It's not really the humour that's controversial, more Jeremy Clarkson himself. He 's an open critic of the Government's 'Speed Kills' program, claiming that our massive amount of speed cameras are simply a 'stealth tax'.

He also frequently has a go at Greenpeace and other such organisations, and is particularly anti-Europe

I think the BBC would quite like to shut him up in many ways, the problem for them, is that a massive amount of the population actually agree with his views, and of course find him very funny.

ahhh...so he is, what we would call in this country, a conservative (or even a libertarian)....

"keep the government out of my life" kind of guy...

I knew I liked him for a reason (more for his "I don't care what you think, I'll think for myself thank you very much" stance than anything else)

I've seen it 5 years now. Suprise to see a thread about it here. Best episode? Well there are lots of it-depending on what do you mean by best. I like when they buy old cars for <1.5K or less than 10K and put it thru test. But then again I like the news too. One thing I do not like is the celebrity section-maybe cause I don't know who they are.

Absolutely. It's nice to see someone still speaking their mind, very much a dying breed i fear.

Before the studio-based format of the show began a few years ago, when the show was really just a selection of location-based reviews, Clarkson actually left the show for about 2 years. Everyone literally stopped watching!

I agree with mbossman. Europe has gone so far left that any well known person who speaks his mind from a libertarian or conservative perspective would be considered controversial. Where is the tolerance?

I agree... that was the best.. the heck with speed and HP... that thing was literally indestructable... I would like to see another car survive what that thing did.

Good old unbreakable Toyota Hilux... great Australian ad

I liked the Apache one, and the one where they had the people mover championship, that was a laugh. However, one of my favourites is when they identical shoddy cars, and destroy them for fun... gotta love the catapault

Clarkson actually writes for the Sun in England, and they're very funny as well. He speaks his mind, but he's not an anarchist. He's basically a do unto others person, and believes in old fashioned values. If someone steals from you, you're entitled to chase and beat them etc.

I liked the full-size remote-controlled car segment that they did recently.
