I spent years waiting for it (yes I'm a browncoat :P ) and enjoyed Serenity a lot. I won't do a spoiler, but I only wish it didn't get boiled down so much into simplicity. Anyone who saw it and found it mildly OK has to watch the series. It is head and shoulders above what Whedon was forced to do when he had to sum up a idea that he wanted do over a couple years period at least, into two hours, and pretext for anyone who never the series on top of it. In the show, story and characters took precedent over flash. While I'm a male and like it, I gather that is why the show had such a large female fanbase. it's not your average Sci-Fi. As far as TV ideas, only the new (not old) Battlestar Galactica comes close. Same thing, more human drama, less "all vectors full on the calladium reactors".

A little known fact about the ship that everyone can feel and notice, but never conciously notice. The entire ship was actually built and the set is continuous from room to room. Until it's pointed out, its something that made it so amazingly real, without actually ever noticing it. Another fun fact, as homage the creators of Battlestar Galactica put Serenity in the pilot.

about 600 gigs and counting, considering stuff i haven't bothered to move over yet.

the problem with HDTV, fortunately for hollywood, is you find yourself watching crappy movies becasue they're awesome in HD. take alien vs predator or van helsing for example. both terrible, not worth the disks they're printed on. but get rid of the DVD and record them in HDTV and they're worth watching over and over and over again .

I also visit Snowblood Apple for information about Asian Horror Cinema.

And I use The Internet Movie Data Base to find information about past movies.

The last movie I saw was the Dukes of Hazzard. Growing up in the late 70's / early 80's made that a must see. It was a little too modernized in my opinion though. I mainly like action movies and crime movies. The shawshank Redemption was mentioned earlier. What a great movie. Usually I'm dissapointed in the movie after reading the book but that was an exception. Now heres one for you. Does anybody remember the first movie they went too see? Mine was a double feature- Cannonball run and 9-5 back to back at the old drive in theater. A trip down memory lane!

If you get a chance, go see the live production of the musical. Excellent production - great to see especially if you haven't seen the Disney movie since it came out in the theatres.

I don't really live next to a big city, well Wichita, but it's really just a small town with big planes. I definately would like to go see it sometime.

I don't remember the first movie I ever saw in the theaters...was way too long ago (I grew up in the 60's).

First movie I recall seeing other than the distant memories of a tag along with my folks at the old drive-in's would be Jaws and the last movie I went to see was SawII. We usually rent or buy DVD's instead of hitting the theaters, too uncomfortable, noisy and no pause/rew/FFW buttons.

Not too many good movies out these days, well for my taste anyway but the last real good movie I've watched more than once was Million Dollar Baby on HBO. I did enjoy the March of the Penguins.

I guess my problem is that in the past before DVD's and VHS movies had more magic for me. It would seem like months before I got to see a new movie and the stories would linger in my memory but today it seems movies are spit out as fast as they can make them and I forget them almost instantly.

My first movie was Master's of the Universe, the Heman movie with Dolph Lundgren...I dont care what you say, that Skeletor outfit was awesome!

Has anyone else here seen "Saints and Soldiers", now that was an EXCELLENT war film. No big budget, no big name actors, just great writing, great set, and great directing.

I rented Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Alien Ressurection today. I've seen the first and liked it a lot.

I'm a huge David Fincher fan so I had to check out Ressurection. Is it any good?...well for an alien movie....

Alien 1 was a great movie from a thriller, suspense POV.

Alien 2 was a great movie from an action POV.

Alien 3 was a great movie from the producer's wallet POV

Alien 4 was a great movie from I don't know whose POV, but it wasn't anyone I know.

I enjoyed Resurrection...but it's probably because I'm a Jean-Pierre Jeunet fan.

The one Alien franchise movie I thought was forgettable was AVP: Alien Vs. Predator...it didn't keep my interest at all.

Last movie I saw in theatres was Episode III. Last movie I watched was A Few Good Men.

You can't beat A Few Good Men as far as I'm concerned, its a great movie all around. Old, but good. Top Gun is up there pretty high too.

Maybe I should take my girlfriend to the movies tomorrow night - any recommendations? Jake, anything you think Jess would like?

forgot about that one (and I am afraid that wasn't too hard)...

I swear that the crappier the movie, the more often it is run on a "premium" movie channel

Yeah, I got Alien 3... For some reason I typed Resurrection...

It was pretty good, better than the second but not as good as the first IMO...

"Mr. & Mrs. Smith", one of those movies where you just know the actors are having a great time.
I enjoyed it right along with Pitt and Jolie.
Worth the price of a rental and don't choke on the popcorn.

edit : Oh yeah, I'd forgotten how much I liked that Air Supply song.

Just watched Lord of War, not a bad movie. The ending kind of irritates me though.

I have a couple recomendations that I recently watched
The edukators(German Indie film)
The Staircase(Quite long actual murder case documentary)
