I saw Accepted, which was pretty funny. It was ALOT like Animal House, not a bad thing, though.

I really want to see Idlewild, the movie looks good, but the music sounds awesome too.

I felt the Japanese version was much better than the American version. The production levels weren't as good as the American version though, but then the budget for the Japanese version was only 1.2 million versus 45 million for the American version.

One thing I really didn't like about the American version was the boy who played the son...the Japanese version used a very innocent looking younger boy. The boy in the American version was slightly older and looked really creepy...I just didn't care what happened to him.

generally people tend to like the version (of ring) they saw first as element of surprise has a lot to do with the viewing experience. the japanese original has less production value, but retains a minimalistic creepiness i feel is lost on the american remake.

I think that's true...people I know who saw "The Ring" first liked it better than "Ringu". Others who saw "Ringu" first liked it better than "The Ring"...but I think they're probably biased since they're Asian Horror Cinema enthusiasts (like me).

Of the recent remakes of Asian Horror Cinema I liked the Japanese versions of "Dark Water" and "Ju-On: The Grudge" better than the Hollywood versions. I've seen the original "Kairo" (Pulse) but haven't seen "Pulse" (the Hollywood version) yet. I don't know if I'd even want to see the Hollywood version of "A Tale Of Two Sisters"...the original Korean version is just so good I'd hate to see how Hollywood messes it up.

I've been meaning to rent "The Grudge" and this time I'll get the japanese version first.
No I haven't seen "Thank you for smoking" but that's a good endorsement.

I saw beerfest last weekend and thought it was hilarious, haven't laughed that hard in a movie for a long time.

I have to second the recomendation for Thank you for smoking, loved that movie also laughed a lot in it but completely different humor.

I saw The Protector last night. I was amazing for just a pure action flick with historical ties to "the ancient ways". I loved it and it's currently at the top of my "to-see-again" list.

Which "The Protector" did you see? There are 8 listed at IMDB. A Thai one (Tom Yum Goong), an Indian one (Ajit Yoddho), a French one (Le Protecteur) and several English ones.

I finally saw "Oldboy" last night (Korea, 2003) and enjoyed it. It's a little slow at times which made it seem longer than it's 2 hour running time, but the story was worth it. Don't think I've seen a story quite like this before.

There are a few Kill-Bill-1 Like scenes of just pure fighting, but the story really makes you side with him. I honestly think it may be one of the best movies I've ever seen; though I'm sure many might see it and think it was just stupid .

Have you seen Ong-Bak The Thai Warrior? It's another good Thai movie (sorry, I posted "The Protector" was a Korean movie in my previous thread but it's actually Thai...I was thinking of Oldboy when I was typing) that is probably similar to The Protector since they share the same director (Prachya Pinkaew) and same lead actor (Tony Jaa). The action in Ong-Bak is pretty awesome...from what I understand, the stunt men actually get hit by Tony Jaa (star of Ong-Bak) to get that "realistic" look (well, yeah it looks realistic because he's actually hitting 'em). One of my favorite action movies...lots and lots of fighting.

If the action in "The Protector" is anything like "Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior", I'm sure you'll find "Ong-Bak" very entertaining.

Now I just have to wait for "The Protector" to come out on DVD .

I saw the Korean version about a yr and a half back at a korean friend's house. I found it not too bad, but i prefered Oldboy to it. Anyone seen Oldboy, besides Cricket? Also has anyone seen "Rang de Basanti"? - a bollywood film

Talking Movie weirdness...!!!!

Just finished watching Tristram Shandy an indie that went no where, moneywise.
Rent the DVD and laugh-out-loud through it all .
Some good things come to Lit. Majors but it's got 'geek' cred.

Just got back from Jet Li's Fearless. Oh My God: It was amazing. A wonderful story, mixed with al ittle tragedy, and a lot of action. I almost cried; which is something most plots fail to achieve.

Next one my list will be The Curse of the Golden Flower (just saw the preview today) and The Marine.

Is anybody planning to see "The Departed"? It's scheduled for release on October 6th, but if you intend to watch it, it would be fun to watch the original film that this was based on, "Infernal Affairs", which is in Chinese.

Which begets the question: Anybdoy watch "Infernal Affairs"?

I haven't seen "Infernal Affairs" but have to wonder...if Hollywood did a remake of "Infernal Affairs", why hasn't it done a remake of "Hard Boiled" or "The Killer" yet?

This weekend I watched Ghostbusters, which is always a great movie, The Man Who Knew Too Much, which did not make any sense to me at all, Rocky which was entertaining, and The Sentinel, it was a good action flick, but everybody looked alike and it was kind of hard to figured what was happening sometimes.

"The Man Who Knew Too Much" is a Alfred Hitchcock movie and I don't think it was a comedy. Are you thinking of "The Man Who Knew Too Little" with Bill Murray?
