Avatar in 3D was one of my all time favorites. The best 3D I have seen to date too, very realistic and not a bunch of fake jump in your face effects.

My son and his friend talked me into seeing jackass 3D last weekend. Oh My frickin' God! it was hilarious. I didn't think it would be. Some parts weren't. But that doggone movie was worth every penny. I laughed so hard I swear I think I was cryin' a few times.
But that's not the real news. I saw a preview for a classic John Wayne movie. drum roll please.....dadadadadaddaddd.........True Grit! And the lead character "Rooster Cogburn' is played by none other than.... Jeff Bridges And from the preview, it looks like he nails it too! Comes out this Christmas. I can't wait. Oh and Matt Damon is in it too. I think he plays Glen Cambell's role as the Texas Ranger. I was too stunned and awestruck to catch all the details. Body of Lies was an excellent movie. I love a good cloak and dagger. i have yet to see Avatar. I'm planning on buying it. Sounds like its a keeper. %0

If you're gonna buy Avatar, I suggest you get yourself to the best home theater you can and sit as close to the screen as you dare. Great entertaining flick, but there is almost no comparison between seeing it at the big screen and watching it at home. It's just one of those movies...a great TV and a great sound system will do way more justice.
Watched 2012 and Behind Enemy Lines recently. 2012 is fun but awfully lame at the same time. Fave line "Man, that is a big plane." "Eetz Roshin'." BEL is a great flick. Some parts of the dialog seem like the actors messed up their lines, but now that I've seen it a few times, it adds a little to the authenticity of it. Who says anything perfectly? Gene Hackman also has a signature way of cussing...belligerent and frank without being gross. Love it

Personally, I would never consider watching that Jackass movie, I just don't care for that type of sick humor.
I've heard of the upcoming True Grit movie and am looking forward to seeing that. I haven't seen any previews of it yet. My sons and I went to see RED the other day. Now that is a funny movie. Lots of action as well as plenty of laughs. John Malkovich does a great job of playing a retired CIA agent that's totally paranoid.

Yeh, I really didn't want to go to jackass , but my wife basically begged me to go insted of her. She told my son and his friend they could go. The boys are sixteen, so one of us had to. I eneded up finding most of it very funny. Once I got past trying to make any real point of it, and realize these guys are truly just being stupid on purpose for the sake of being stupid. It's pretty funny . There's quite a bit of just plain gross stuff that's hard to get over, but it looks like someone figured hout how to make money out of all the crap we thought about when we were 10 and 13. You have to be able to let your mind take you back to that time frame to enjoy the movie. It's rated for a mature audience, but it's clearly not for the mature adult. Yeh, i missed Avatar at the theater. The boys got to go. They went with my son's Gandma, she treated after a sunday service. I had to stay and help at the church. Something my wife volunteered me for.

Found a nice surprise on Hulu tonight. "Ip Man" (2008). A Chinese martial arts film that is very well done with great acting, very good fighting scenes but most of all a fantastic story line. It's not one of those cheap & silly types, this one obviously had a pretty healthy budget.
If you don't mind subtitles this one is a treat....and free on Hulu!

I recently went to see "The Mechanic" with Jason Statham. It's a remake of a Charles Bronson movie from 1972. The new movie was a huge disappointment. The whole point of the character in the original movie was that he refused to "cowboy" things and took great pains to make sure his kills didn't appear as hit jobs. The character in the new movie shows none of that class which ruined the movie for me.

The Steig Larsson trilogy, : The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked a Hornets Nest ...
Are all more than worth your cash and time. Get the Swedish version with English subtitles, you'll thank me. In fact, go for broke and get the books as well. |

Maybe it's just me but this summer's line up of box office "blockbusters" was very disappointing. There was nothing that really grabbed my attention. I'm talking about the huge budget, hyped up, gotta see it after viewing the preview type of movie.
Maybe next summer. Or maybe I'm just getting old and hard to impress. |

Not as god as the others, but Pirates 4 (Stranger Tides) was alot of fun. Done well, ya just kinda miss the other characters, but still worth it for some excellent entertainment.
BTW, I just recently saw The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo. Not real cinematic, but the story is excellent. I've yet to see the others in the trilogy. Last edited by rwest; 10-08-2011 at 12:49 AM. |

To all Marvel fans:
Go see the AVENGERS ![]() My boy talked me into going at midnight 12:01 AM on friday. But it was worth it. We took his friend and we all thought every part was done extremely well. The guy who played the hulk, nails it. Nothing chessy about the film. Straight up action with a good story line, that is as far as comic book hereos go; aand Robert Downey Jr as the witty Tony Stark is right back on top with the comments. My son said what he liked most about the flim, is that each character got equal time. So if you only like one or two-its not dissapointing.
