Interesting even if it is conjecture. Raises that old Dell/AMD thing again.

Do Intel offer Dell such great deals on their processors that Dell are too scared to upset the chip making giant by making computers with AMD processors in them?

I just cannot understand why the computer making giant continues to ignore Advanced Micro Devices processors.

very interesting to see what happens, only hope though that it would bring down alienware prices, to dell price levels, and have dell rebate coupons for alienware. Also keep AMD.

My guess is that Dell will keep the name and have Alienware as their premium brand with the same profit margins. I don't think much will change. Gamers who buy Alien computers don't seem to have much problem paying a couple thousand over cost for a screamer of a computer.

More about price than anything. Dell signs an agreement with Intel to only use their chips. As a result, they get better pricing.

Quite an interesting venture. I would like to see it happen. I think Dell could profit quite well from it. It's true, Alienware PCs are much overpriced, but if I were to get a Gaming Notebook, it would probably be an Alienware (configured to my liking). Even if merging with Dell doesn't result in lower prices for Alienware PCs, they will still have people buying them - people buy them now.

If dell lowered alienware's prices = more customers = more $$$.

Just to keep things accurate, it is still unconfirmed. Neither Dell or Alienware has confirmed the buyout, though they haven't denied it either.

I wouldn't mind if the deal does go through though. It would be a huge boost to Dell to acquire the high-end gaming market. Will be interesting to see how the AMD issue pans out.

As long as Alienware keeps it's same site, I bet most of the people who buy from them won't even know Dell bought out their highend Gaming PC dealer, unless of course there was a big dell logo all over the place.

my guess (and Michael Dell would be wise to take my advice LOL) is this acquisition will be very similar to the Cisco/Linksys one. Allow Alienware subsidiary continue on under its own name and management and just contribute the revenue/profits to the overall Dell bottomline. Kind of an Alienware by Dell thing. Keep the Brandname intact so as to not confuse the customer and the management team intact (as best as possible) as they seem to know what they are doing in this segment of the market.

to be honest, only dell will notice the difference because it will reap more profits, but thats it.

Of course, Dell will probably be using the Alienware engineers to overclock that new XPS 600 beast at the factory.

That $9,900 gaming pc...

...isn't being bought for junior.
I guess Dell just figured that out.
In case you need more statistics chuckle over this : http://www.canmag.com/news/4/22/3400

Jack Thompson is too late.
Warren Specter's worries are justified though : http://www.escapistmagazine.com/issue/37/4 (Part 1 of a two part article.)

I can't wait to see how this is going to turn out. I bet that Dell just wants a share of alienware's money If what I am about to say offends anyone I am sorry. personally I hate dell I have never liked their computers or the company. I have worked on them before but I will never buy a dell I would buy an alienware computer over a dell any day.

And on the contrary, I would never buy Alienware, but would buy DELLs (specifically the entry level ones for cost efficiency).
