VoIP Options?
From what I can see, there are two major VoIP providers, Vonage & AT&T. There are also smaller (and less expensive) companies like BroadVoice. I'm considering starting a consulting business and want to offer clients toll-free access to my service. I currently do not have a land-line phone - I use my cellphone for everything. But with this endevor I will be setting up a home office and don't want a 800-service that will simply forward to my cell. I can add VoIP to my current broadband connection which will give me incoming/outbound calling, but I want to offer a toll-free number and have a dedicated fax line.
For my blood, the smaller VoIP companies like BroadVoice have the better deals on 'ala-carte' features like second lines and toll-free numbers - but I know plenty of people that have Vonage and love the service. Maybe I've spend too much time in West Michigan hanging around too many Dutch people (if you're from here, you'll know what I mean - right PR??) but Vonage will be almost twice as much as BroadVoice for a comparably equipt line (1 inbound/outbound line, fax line, 800 line). But I can find very few reviews of these smaller VoIP companies. Anyone here care to chime in on what they have heard - pros/cons, good/bad/ugly, good reveiws/bad reviews, personal experiences....

I use broadvoice and am extremly happy with them. I had a few problems when I lived in Maryland, but I think that was just b/c of my ISP (Comcast). Now that I live in Co it works absolutly perfectly.
They are cheap and provide way more features than the other services, I even get my voicemails emailed as a wav file to my work account. Also, if you know people in other countries most international calls are included in there basic plan. |

Instead of a fax line, you could use EFax or JFax.

I've been using Vonage for over two years and it has worked just great for me. Very few issues at all.

This service is very good. I use it for a network marketing business, but you could use it for any business. You get a 1800 number for voice and it automatically accepts faxes. It is highly configurable. I don't know how the cost compares, but I have unlimited service for around $35/month.
