anyone ever get a grant. were is a good resorce for finding and or geting a grant.



this is one place I found on google http://www.grant-rating.com/

I need to replace some curbing and maby put in an approch to my driveway. city ordenance says I need a contractor becouse its a public riteaway so I cant do the work myself.

the idea in a grant is my not having to pay for the repairs. with a loan I would have to pay more.

the city gave me a rough estamet of up to $1500 but it is still
up to a contractor. I havent got an estamet from one yet I have two months still.

The site you linked you have to buy a program and then most look to be for student loans and such. Could check with the city or county to see if they have any home improvement programs were they will pay for the work or maybe add the cost to your home loan escrow account. That's what my town home association did when we resided all 245 homes.

Nobody wants to pay for such repairs, but such is life. My parents paid for a tree stump to be removed from the curb and for it to be filled with cement. A year or so later the city broke the concrete and planted a tree without first notifying us. Another three years later or so my parents got a letter saying that the concrete had to be corrected because it was jutting upwards a bit and was a safety hazard.

I just mentioned this just so you see that similar nonsense happens all over the place.

I doubt the feds would've done anything had nobody tipped them off.

Well, they made half the families on the block fix some part of the curb in front of the homes. The theory was that they were doing similar things in random neighborhoods to prepare for the olympics committee preliminary evaluations.

Oy, don't even get me started as to when the city gave everyone with a licence plate frame a ticket. If a car had a plastic frame around the rear plate (whether custom frame or stock frame that came from the dealership), they got a ticket.

It's called being a home owner - it's happened to me more times than I care to remember. But...as a home owner part of the 'deal' is that I maintain city land (in my city, the sidewalk in front of my home, the small plot of grass between the sidewalk and the street as well as the curb). If the city says repair it - I do. Fact of life. Just last month I had to pay 50% of a sidewalk repair that I had nothing to do with...but my property rights say I have to make the repair using a city authorized contractor and that I have to pay 50% of the cost.

so you only had to pay 50% I wouldnt mind paying only 50%. if I can get a grant to pay for some or all of the repairs than why not?

I emailed my state congress rep, she said the state dosent give this type of grant and linked me to the fed rep. so I emailed him but he will only respond with snail mail so it will take a few days.

So you're agreeing with me. For a second I thought you were disagreeing, but your "fact of life" statement matches up with my "such is life" one.

I believe that the curb is city property and hence the city's responsibility, but everything between the curb and the house falls within the home owner's responsibility as you mentioned. (I'm fairly certain about these boundaries, but don't hold me to it).

you may want to see if your area has what are termed "Community Rehab loans". these are low cost loans, guaranteed by the locality for doing work like this.

the city is clear the home owner is liable for the curb.
