Intel Desktop Board DP965LT

Intel has posted the DP965LT board on their site.
One notable change is a new RAM configuration called flex mode where ram will run in a partial dual channel mode.
EX: 512 Mb in channel A and 1Gb in channel B: The 512 and 512 of the 1Gb will run dual channel and the other 512 of the 1Gb will run single channel.

Nice. I can't wait for the 965 boards to hit the street. I wonder when that will be?

Interesting...still can't make up for a proper dual channel configuration though.

That brings up a question:
What if I have two sticks, one at 533 and one at 667? Will the 667 finally run at full speed?

Mm...

Cool! Luckily, it sounds like they are releasing the "Conroe XE" at the same date as the regular line.

I'm anticipating that processor is gonna cost 1200 bucks at the Egg when it hits. Do you see a price on that mobo yet? I'm guessing 250.......

Well....good business for you....I would venture to say less than that for the mobo. I think Intel is marketing the 965's towards mainstream users and the 975x to the power users. My guess is $150-$200.

On the same note, ASUS will have a P5B and P5B Delux so I've heard. No word on pricing or availability.

Asus has the P5B's up on their site - the Deluxe really looks impressive. Who needs a 975X? Isn't the 985 going to be the premium Core 2 chipset anyway?

Wonder when's that chipset gonna come out. The 975X has to be revision 3.0 in order to be used with the C2D.

The 975X supports Crossfire...the 965 does not.

Any 975X board *can* support Conroe, *but* it needs the right hardware for the different power requirements...right now I think all 975X boards are incompatible (with the exception of the Intel board, but needs a certain revision).

I think the 965 comes out with Conroe, and that's the first I've heard of 985 (sounds impressive though!).

I'm getting away from Intel and heading for Asus, Nuk - Intel changed OEM's, it's not Foxconn any more.

I'm frankly not impressed with what I've been seeing lately with the Intel name on it. Heck, their entry level 775 board has an ATI chipset. The performance of the flagship 975X Bad Axe board is lackluster according to the reviews I've seen. If their stuff is stable and reliable, I'll keep buying it, but I kinda have my doubts right now. The last 945G build we did (with an 805, by the way) we used a Foxconn board. Works nice.

Also, I would be suspicious to use a mobo whose chipset had to undergo a revision in order to be compatible with the new hardware. Kinda like pouring new wine into old casks. Better to wait for a new product.

Really? I thought all 975x's supported Conroe (the chipset itself, not the board)...either way I agree, I'd rather have a chipset built around Conore....

This is interesting, I was just at the Asus website and it seems the chipset supports C2D. Then it's prolly the mobo which was revised. Guess we'll have to do what I hate the most doing for the final words on this topic: waiting.

I would buy from Asus, yet certain features of their mobos bumfuzzle me, like the Crossfire support. What if you are not using an ATi VC? Will it just turn itself off or are you gonna have issues?

Yep, only time will tell.

You can use any brand video card with a board with Crossfire support (AFAIK)...kinda like SLI...but getting a board with an ATI chipset w/CF support and using a nVidia card would be silly, but I'm sure some people might find a use for the second x16 slot on 975x boards though (since you could use it just like an x1, x4 slot etc) (maybe you can do that on ATI/SLI chipset's, but i'm not sure)....

Also, ASUS's (and everyone else's) 965 boards won't have CF support, so that won't be an issue either way...

I see. I'm steering away from ATi, hence my question. My next VC will be nVidia.
