Official World Series thread

Which team are you pulling for in this Series? Pulling for them because you WANT them to win it, or you think they WILL win it?

I am pulling for the Cards because a year ago I told an old friend of mine, a Cardinals season ticket holder for years, that they had come very close many times but would never win it until I was rooting for them to win the Series.

Even in the ninth inning yesterday I truly believed they would win the game. I have been converted....

I am so tired of this " Tigers can't be beat !" mentality being foisted upon us by so called experts. Where were they when the same Tigers were beaten three times in a row just three weeks ago by the cellar dwelling KC Royals????

GO CARDS!!!!!

Of course they can be beat...anybody who thinks a team will sweep through the playoffs is ignorant. As for being beaten by the Royals at the end of the season...every team has their slump. If you remember correctly your Cards werent so hot around beginning to mid-season .

You're forgetting the part where they counted them out in the first two series of the post season, Game 1 @ NYY. You wanna talk about being 'counted out'? The Yankees have a payroll of close to or more than $200 Million (a good $120 Million more than the Tigers Organization) and brought forth what many called the best line-up "ever", you can definitely see I know where you're coming from. While I will concede some said the Tigers were a shoe in for the WS after they were in, I personally --despite being a fan-- was never under this impression. My prediction all along has been: Tigers win it in six. Though it'll probably be seven and who wins will be in the air.

^-Maybe that was a bit overboard...

I'd say around 49/50 states in the US are rooting for STL, though, well except for the teams that Cardinals beat along the way, they're probably watching the series and pulling for the Tigers --and Visa Versa for the AL teams that got blown past by the Tigers. Personally I wanted to see Kenny pitch in STL, but that's mostly because he has a very menacing look when he's holding a bat. Though I'll take yesterday's win any day over that, there's always Interleague play next year.

^-that too...

Here's to wasting champaign.

I think it's stupid SI and the media that was saying the Tigers can't be beat, but I've been saying all along that the Cards would be a tough opponent and they so far have shown that they are. I'm rooting for the Tigers since I've been a Detroit Tiger fan all my life and that's going back to the 1984 Tigers and even before that. I will not be upset if the Cardinals win the World Series for the Tigers will in my book had a great season; however, if they do win it then it's just icing on the cake. It's not Detroit's "Destiny" to win the world series, for they have to play baseball games in order to do that. Anyways, GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i grew up just outside of Toledo Ohio, and for those of you who don't know, the Toledo Mud Hens are Detroit's AAA team. i have been a die hard toledo fan my entire life and that makes me a tigers fan as well. mud hens have won the governor's cup (aaa championship) two years running now, and i think it would a great thing for the detroit organization as a whole if they could pull it out. best team in mlb and best in aaa would be so sweet

Agreed, Hobey19, with the WM Whitecaps pulling out their championship as well it would be fantastic to see the Tigers pull through with a world series; that would have to be some kind of record.

I actually remember listening to game 7 of the last Cards/Tigers series on the radio. I was pulling for StL then as well as now. Our city has the Cards Triple A team, the Redbirds. Many of the players on the team can through here. So far the series started out just like the Mets/Cards series. Hopefully it will end that way. By all rights the Tigers should win but anything can happen. I actually think that StL has an advantage when playing in Detroit. That is because they can put Duncan in the lineup. His normal position is 1st base but someone else is already playing there. He is a big liability in the outfield but having the DH alllows him to get some at bats.

Who I root for at this point (now that my team is out) really boils down to who has the least obnoxious fans that I will have to look at celebrating on TV. I would imagine most of us agree on which team that will be. Hint: I can't imagine overturned police cars in St Louis.

Of course, of course. The Cards went through a serious slump at the end of the season, but I am not hearing anyone claim they are heads and shoulders over the Tigers. My point is that the series is relatively evenly matched, but the media experts are giving (slowing down now, for some odd reason) very little chance to the Cards...or they were before the Cards whipped the Tigers so badly in the first game.

If one definition of an ignorant person is they beleve the Tigers were to sweep this whole thing, then there are one heck of a lot of ignorant people out there. That's my point, lots of people claiming it was Tigers, Tigers, Tigers...

Yeah, I think this thread is full of people who know that, and we sit in amazement at how the media builds a bandwagon and looks at everyone who doesn't jump on as a moron. There is a lot of great baseball to be played.

The same Tiger team was supposeduly, according to the " experts ", destined to lose to the mighty Yankees because the Yankees were unstoppable too...

People just need to remember a bit more.

I'd like to see the Tigers win - for several reasons. First, because I'm a life long Michigan resident and grew up listening to George Kell and Ernie Harwell call the Tigers games on the radio - before we even had a tv in the house. I knew every player and their stats and kept the box score for every game while sitting at the kitchen table.

Second, I spent the World Series of 1968 listening to the Tigers beat the Cards on the Armed Forces Radio Network in Vietnam. Had an over night job that allowed me to catch the games in real time. Reliving that win - without the surroundings! - would be great!

Third, my former father-in-law bought my son a special Tigers autographed bat following the 1984 World Series Win. It's a black Louisville Slugger signed by Alan Trammell, the 1984 WS MVP. It hangs on a rack and has never struck a baseball.

Fourth, the aforementioned WS appearances by the Tigers are the only ones in my lifetime - and they won both times. I'd like to see them keep the "streak" alive! hehe

Fifth, and finally, one of the greatest moments in WS/sports history is one created by a then former Tiger in 1988. The home run by a crippled Kirk Gibson was a phenomenal feat. The guy could barely walk and no way he could even run to first base but Tommy Lasorda put him in as a pinch hitter with the WS on the line. 3-2 count, bottom of the ninth, one man on and Gibson was facing one of the most feared relievers of his time, Dennis Eckersley. Eckersley had 45 saves that year for Oakland but that didn't faze Gibby. Who can forget Gibby rounding the bases in a wild limp/hop with his arms raised over his head?! It was a Dodger's win but Gibby will be remembered as a Tiger by us old timers.

...and Eckersley as one of my favorite all time pitchers...being an A's fan. My favorite series has to be the A's vs Giants where the A's swept 4-0.

It's not over yet for the Tigers, but they better start playing better. The people of Michigan know how to celebrate peacefully and I really think people who say that we don't have been hiding under a rock or are just ignorant. I won't go into the debate on this for it's a mute point as far as I'm concern, I just like watching the games. I just wish they start earlier and that there wasn't so many commercials. Anyways, GO TIGERS!!!!

Panama Reds reasons are very solid

I don't know about anyone else, but it seems like Panama Red has the best reasons for rooting for a team thus far posted. It is too bad, with all those great memories (sorry you have to endure the 68 Series in those surroundings), that the Tigers will most likely lose to my team, the Cardinals...

I made myself rather unwelcome at Hooters last night amid all those Tigers fans...oh well...

I think that as of now, it's still anybody's series. I'll say it again - I hope this goes on to a game 7!!

Nobody is going to be singing for quite a while if the rain in STL doesn't stop!

Thanks a lot. That brought back memories of Rosanne mangling the National Anthem before a game once upon a time. In case you missed it

I lost whatever respect I ever had for her when she pulled that stunt. If she really sings THAT bad, MLB should also be ashamed for letting her even try.

Letting someone like that sing the national anthem is no different than pissing on the flag.

Cards lead the series 3-1

The Tigers are going to give everything they have tomorrow night, and yet one has to feel good at the 3-1 lead going in to game 5...

Go Cards!!!

Hopefully the Tigers tie it up tomorrow. Their pitching has been decent but boy are those bats cold. It seemed they were swinging at everything these past few games.
