Best way to disable this annoying Popup ad?

What's the best way to disable this "Dating" popup ad which has appeared on PC Mechanic?

My wife thought I was on a Porno site instead of a serious PC Tech site.

I do not think that the Pop-up is part of this site, I was getting it earlier but then ran a spyware scan with Ad-Aware and deleted the found files. Since then I have not gotten it back. Link for Ad-Aware is below

The as is coming from PCMech as this is currently the only place that I get this very annoying pop-up.

It is annoying. Even after clicking it off, it comes back when changing forums. I ran ad-aware and it doesn't help. Could it be someone here thinks we all need a date?

Yup, Pop-up Stopper does the trick. And it does it with a minimum of hassle. Neat little program.

Unless I'm doing something wrong, Pop-Up Stopper also stops you from clicking on any links. You have to disable it to explore any links you guys may have posted. If it isn't one thing, its another.

The popup is annoying, but if you dont close it, and just leave the window at the back, then if you get it again, it just opens the new ad in the old window, and it doesnt come up to the front.

Its a bit simpler then getting a whole program, but its not quite as effective, but i dont mind having the extra netscape window open, cuz i never notice it.

Use Naviscope. I use it in work on NT and it's quite stable. Not so on 95b or ME in my experience. The configurations you can set are very good indeed. It also monitors your true bandwidth and blocks ads etc, etc.

A couple of things about Popup Stopper
It only works with IE 5 or greater.

It disables all new windows. That's why some links may not work. You can however open new windows by holding down the control key when you click on a new link.

Pop-Up Stopper does the job.

Pity i've got to use it though. However, it will be useful for visiting other sites which use pop-ups...and I don't mean naughty ones...you'd have to use "Pop-Out Stopper" on those.

Thanks Oryx for reminding us to read the instructions on programs before using them. You're right, holding the "control" button allows you to open a new window.

Now I can surf without fear or hindrance. Who needs a life - I have Pop-Up Stopper!

'Live on line dating rooms' ad is coming here also ... hopefully for not much longer. Damn it, pop ups are bad enough. These make the animated monkey palatable.

Download IE6.0 and the popup ads are gone.
Also you will find that your browsing is faster with IE6.0

The security features in IE6.0 are great so far.

I agree with Rick. D/l'd IE6 this afternoon and so far it works better then IE5.5. Security is much better.

The whole problem with the pop-up ad is that none of the women in it looks like they know what a computer is.

It looks interesting and I'll download it.
However, I won't be trying it just now. This PC's bulging at sides with programs (all essential of course!) and I need clean house first.

I haven't had a popup ad since I upgraded to IE6 either.

Unfortunately, my past experiences of trying to upgrade IE to a more recent version have not been happy ones.

Now I tend to wait until I do a fresh install of Windows every 12-15mnths and do a clean install of IE at the same time.

So I'll have to wait a bit before I experience the charms of IE6.

lynch: the only way I know is disable Javascript or see if someone offers a popup killer for Linux.

Thank's, glc.No java or javascript enabled on the box I'm replying from(SuSE7.2) and no pop-up ads,either.I'm seeing them on my Mandrake system,though.

Admittingly, these ads of questionable intent are still occuring. Although not affected personally, I could see the embarrassment caused by a 'LIVE ON LINE DATING ROOMS' pop up advertisement.
