As far as I am concerned it is not complete until they have issued as least SP1 and more likely SP2. I don't think it will be any different than their past releases.

I feel the same, although with the massive public testing they have done, I'm willing to be proven wrong --> a rock solid windows right out of the box? I guess we'll find out.

I agree, let's save the judgements till we get the final product in our hands. I'm interested to see how things go...

You know, I'm all for being confident in your product, but this quote looks like one of those that's destined to come back and bite him in the butt the first time a bug is found or a hacker finds a hole to exploit.

I'm fairly sure finding a bug or hole in the code is inevitable. It happens to every program, unless all your program does is sit there and vegetate

It's how long it'll be before an exploit is found, that's worth measuring.

I think vista, prior to it's first service pack, will be more solid than XP was prior to it's first service pack. Back then they weren't as security conscious as they are now, hence all of the extra public testing.

It sure looks that way Jimmy. I am guessing that there is a very high probability of a necessary SP1 within the first year to correct a bunch of problems. This is not criticism, just the reality that it is impossible to find most of the problems without testing an OS on millions of people first. Even Apple has to make periodic corrections.

Thousands of people write this stuff and then millions of people test it...look at the numbers and it is certainly understandable. Hypothetically, which group is going to uncover more problems?...a few thousand beta testers or millions of beta testers?...add to that black hats who are trying to do bad things to users.

Sure, I will guess 365 days. The closest wins my retired 300mhz, P-II from work.

This thread will probably be one of those that gets dredged up from the past 2 years from now...like yours just did Jimmy ...and then I will actually have to send that computer to the winner. It might be useful as a Habitrail (hamster cage)

I'm going to be optimistic and say vista SP1 in 1.5 years, around May or june of 2008

david - any OS on that machine, and do you ship all the way to London?
But I am giving it early Feb 08 for SP1. BTW, if it has no OS, and as i have no hamsters, how good a paperweight does it make?
