At least you don't have to watch the one here in Oklahoma. One of our local tv stations covers the Oklahoma City "ball drop" every year. Only difference is theirs isn't exactly a "drop", because theirs goes UP in the air instead of down. Guess they just had to be different.

I guess a ball dropped or hoisted up a flag pole is cheaper than a fireworks display....that's the only thing I can figure. Poor people get ripped off compared to Sydney Australia.

Well, the people in OKC get a fireworks show, but it's not anything compared to any of the major shows put on by other cities like Sydney. More of a July 4th at the county fair auto races size of a deal. I think their ball is actually raised by a crane, so not quite as cheap as a flagpole, but not much to brag about either.

Well, if they're gonna have a ball drop, then they might as well make it a glass bowl and let it drop free fall and explode all over the ground upon impact!
That's a ball dropping that I would go out and stay up until midnight to see!

or better yet, a ball filled with fireworks that explode when it hits the bottom of the pole.
