I guess a ball dropped or hoisted up a flag pole is cheaper than a fireworks display....that's the only thing I can figure. Poor people get ripped off compared to Sydney Australia.

Well, the people in OKC get a fireworks show, but it's not anything compared to any of the major shows put on by other cities like Sydney. More of a July 4th at the county fair auto races size of a deal.
I think their ball is actually raised by a crane, so not quite as cheap as a flagpole, but not much to brag about either.

Well, if they're gonna have a ball drop, then they might as well make it a glass bowl and let it drop free fall and explode all over the ground upon impact!
That's a ball dropping that I would go out and stay up until midnight to see!
