Generation ruined by cartoons
I heard a discussion on the raido a few months ago, it was about how wierd the kids cartoon Spong Bob was....
Then callers started calling in pointing out that the cartoons most of us watched were really messed and wierd. I never though about it, but it is pretty funny. A few points: Porky Pig: Take note he wears a shirt but no pants! What a sicko, and what an example for kids... Bugs Bunny: If there were womens clothes around, Bugs was corss dressing. And kissing Elmer Fudd. Elmer always threatened to "blast that rabbit" but never did when he had the chance, he had deep repressed feelings for Bugs he couldn't deal with. Yogi Bear: First, Yogi lives with Boo Boo, who doesn't seem to be a son, or newphew, just a young bear who shares the cave...hmmm Then Yogi never holds a job and is constantly trying to lead Boo Boo into crime, stealing other peoples lunch [no wonder no one can leave their lunch in the friedge at work]. Amazing we all turned out all right... I... I ... am ... just fine.. I am fine, just hungry...have to go find a picinic basket at the park Man, it is amazing that any of us turned out normal with such awful influences.. |

ya it is amazing though i think video games have more effects on kids or movies kids shouldn't watch. I guess the new cartoons that kids watch are those fighting cartoons
you can't forget tom and jerry:tom is always trying to eat jerry the mouse tom and jerry was a great cartoon |

Oh yeah, Tom and Jerry. Excellent.
Having played one on the modern computer games, I have to say you may have a point. It made me more aggreesive afterwards - beucause I had to take the role in the game and walk around looking for enemies to shoot. In carttons you just watch and laugh. And of course the road runner -coyote show. Always smashing the coyote, but great fun. |

I always have and always will hold the opinion that if a kid is taught right from wrong from the very beginning, it doesn't matter what they watch, play, or listen to. I use myself as the prime example. My parents taught me right from wrong and that there are consequences for your wrong actions. I played whatever video games I wanted to, watched whatever tv programs and movies I wanted to, and listened to whatever music I wanted to. Playing Doom and Grand Theft Auto didn't make me go shoot a police officer, and listening to Ozzy Osbourne and Marilyn Manson didn't make me suicidal and want to jump off the top of my house. Why? Because I knew what was acceptable and what wasn't. If more parents would take notice of what's going on in their child's life and stop blaming their actions on tv and video games, the world would have a lot less violence caused by children. Guess that's asking too much though, for them to take some responsibility themselves and stop blaming others.
As for Sponge Bob, yeah, he's weird, but that's what makes him popular. Ever see a cartoon about a normal guy doing normal things that wasn't boring? Me neither.

I was raised right from wrong. I, like juppy, watched all the gory movies, listened to the devils music, played violent video games, watched "bad" cartoons, and look at me. Perfectly fine. My parents taught me right from wrong at an early age. If I did something bad or slipped up, I suffered the consequences. Sometimes I got a mouthful of soap or a belt across the butt...but I learned how to behave well.

What's wrong with someone watching Spong Bob!! It is somewhat bizzare... but that just ups its appeal.

Violence and crazyness is ok, just as long as you're smart enough to know the difference between going and shooting someone in a video game and shooting someone in real life, and being a pig and not wearing pants, and being a person and not wearing pants.
BTW, has anyone noticed that in America the kids are usually protected from sex more than violence, and in Europe the kids are usually protected from violence more than sex? Or is that just me? |

Nothing wrong with classic animations or cartoons. Instead, parents should be worried about kids who are playing the computer/video games and the rough wrestling. When I was young, I watched cartoons and they made me laugh only. Nothing other than that.

Kids are in worse shape now....not mentally but physically. The problem? They would rather play on the computer or gaming consoles than get outside and exercise. I know this firsthand, I have a 12 year old son.
I have watched Sponge Bob and many other modern cartoons with my son plenty of times....there is nothing warped about them. Parents should be more concerned about their kids health than what cartoons they are watching.

ya i soppose you are right about health that is a big issue. and the media might have a small effect on a child but if the child nows right from wrong it won't effect them as much from a child that doesn't now right from wrong. The childs life has allot to deal with there actions toward society.
i wouldn't mind going outside if it wasn't so cold so i stay in and play video games but i work allot outside |

I grew up on board games and all the other non-electronic form of games. I could only play a little bit of Atari and Famicom. Nowadays, kids' playtime are not TV anymore. It's the console game and the Nintendo.

I am just trying to figure out why Donald Duck talks with a duck voice but Daisy Duck talks with a normal voice.

I too, saw all the gory movies, drugs is cool moview, etc, etc, etc. Hwoever, my parents spent time with me early on and so I had a good basis to evaluate from. And, a few of the anti-drug programs at school did work for me.
Parents, spend time with your kids, teach them right from wrong early on, or send them to sunday school. That all helped me stay in line, but I have lost many friends to drugs...and such. |
