Man, that's awesome! I bet it would be sweet to enjoy your ten-year quarter-million dollar work that is as real as flight simulating can get!

There is a guy here that I used to do work for who was doing something similar.. no motion setup and instead of a big screen, he had multiple computers and multi monitors... one for forward view, one each for left and right view and one for instruments. The guy in this article is the same guy that he was purchasing instrument panel replicas from.

Certainly not as sophisticated, but a valiant home grown effort: http://www.wideview.it/steve/

The linked simulator is cool too, and now I see a reason for Ambilight.

I went to this sim place once called...well I can't remember anymore. It was in Mountain View CA.

Anyways, they used what was something similar to the Magic Edge system :http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=832

It was sweet at least then, and might still be awesome. But in any case, as you'll see in the pictures it was a full personal enclosure, strapped in and ready to rock. The screen surrounded you, unlike the magic edge version, you had contact with a tower and you were assigned a wingman. Basically a huge dogfighting arena. Sweet eh?

In any case, this place had like 15 of these things, so I went with a bunch of guys a few years back and we had a huge dogfight for about 4-5 hours. Good times, but man it was intense.

It doesn't look one bit like a 747 though.

But he has built a 747 Sim as well.

Here's the website: 747 Sim

Now that's crazy yet frickin' awesome

That 787 is really impresssive.
I have a feeling that there will be a lot more 747s sitting out in the desert or waterbombing fires.

A 747 with a joystick....uh huh. Pretty cool though. This guy seriously needs to go to flight school and do it for real.
