Why is this memory so cheap? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145568 It is very good memory, and DDR2 is the newer standard, so I cannot comprehend what makes this particular memory so cheap. Is DDR2 memory lowering in cost altogether? I believe I paid $30 more for that same memory not too long ago. Just to start a discussion about DDR2 costs...

Supply and demand. If there is a hi demand for the VS and supply is tight the price will be higher. As production catches up with demand, prices comes down.

Plus there is the recent lawsuits against memory chip manufacturers who attempted to keep the price of memory high because the memory prices were falling through the floor.

Looks like it's a general price drop.
Here's 2 gigs of Corsair Value Select for $159.99 with a $10 MIR and free shipping. Hmmm, should I double my RAM?

Only upgrade if you feel you need 2GB of memory. For most, 1GB is plenty.
![]() I agree, the price makes it tempting. |

It's droppin' all the way around. Get it while you can, if it's what you need. There's probably another reason as well: This Summer there will be platforms requiring DDR21066 and DDR31333, to name a few. Think what that stuff will cost!

Markets becoming bigger, IC Manufacturers are being pressured to lower costs.."or else"...!
Not to mention that the DDR2 market is being flooded with all sorts of new OEMs being called in. A year or two ago only about 2 or 3 were making ddr2 ICs for various brands, now everybody's joining in.
